RAW Rapid HM1000X tuning and fun

I know there have been a string of these as of late, and it is great to see honestly.

I have been working on the rifle and playing with a few things trying to find what works with the rifle and just how accurate I can get the rifle.

Ok I did some more shooting yesterday with some of the Corbin X Punch slugs from 28gr, 29gr, and 30 grains. Of course at 50 yards everything is a single hole ranging is speeds from 930 fps to 880 fps. The most shocking thing is that the standard deviation was under 5 for all of them! These Corbin presses are able to get some STUPID consistent slugs. I did reach out to UA and asked them what their shooters are using with their HM1000X rifles and I was told they are finding great results with the H&N 218 slugs.

Airgun Blank NO CHOKE - Twist:17.7" | .22 air polygon | OD:.63" | L:24.21" | precision rifle steel t

This is the barrel that is on my rifle currently, so there is no reason why a 218 shouldn't work in the gun. I have been talking with Martin as well to get more information about the rifle he built for me. I am waiting to hear what the regulator is set at currently. With the 25 grain KnockOuts I am getting an easy 970 fps and some "ok" accuracy. I am sure there is more there that can be squeaked out with a few adjustments and fine tuning.

With all of the things I have going for the rifle I need to break things down and take things slow and only change one thing at a time and not 4, 5 and 6 things. Since I got the rifle I have only added the extended plenum to the rifle. The other "options" I have for the rifle is a muzzle break from APW, tunable muzzle break from Eagle Vision, DonnyFl Ryu, DonnyFl Yokozuna, Impulse Air 1200, Impulse Air 1350, and a few others. I am looking at getting an easier to adjust regulator to really fine tune what the rifle is doing.

I have been able to find a few really good nodes with each of the units on the rifle. So I need to find one and stick with it and then really fine tune the rifle to spit out the decided slug. My main reason for the rifle is for NRL22 but also want to get the rifle out on a prairie dog town or other critters that I can set up for in a hide. So quite a few different things that I would like to use the rifle for.

Now I am trying to figure out what weight slug would work best in the 1:17.7 twist barrel, and how fast I should push the slugs. Any thoughts or insight please let me know and I will be happy to test them out and see what happens.

So lets hope I get lucky quickly and get down to shooting much MUCH more.

The one thing I have found is that the NSA slugs are much harder than the pure lead Corbin slugs. I have plenty of 217, 2175, and 218 of the NSA.... and I was having issues with some of the 217 and 2175 slugs. The 218 slugs there was no way they were going into the barrel.

So for my rifle atleast it seems the softer lead is easier on the system. Though also want to try more of the NSA slugs, due to having a ton of them on hand.

This is causing some weird findings honestly. It has be wondering if the type of lead will also affect the ammo we use. Harder lead means a smaller slug is needed, but that may not be the best slug for your barrel. Pure lead makes it easier for the slug to fit to the barrel

I believe I have some of those laying around. Also have some of the NSA Howlers.

I am guessing I could push those little buggers over 1100fps! Going shooting tomorrow, I will bring them with and see what happens.
I shoot the 17.5 @ 950-ish and the 20.2 @ 930-ish but I think they will do well also @ higher speeds....hope they work for you! Please let me know if they do! If you don't have those diameters and sizes, I have plenty and can send you some to try 👍

Hi Ranchi. I'm a new raw owner and working on finding the best setup for the gun. Is your raw a stock/out of the box gun/setup or was it a custom order and have you tuned it down? I think mine was shooting the 20.2 a bit faster than yours. I tried the .2165 as that's what I had laying around that my Brocock sniper hp with the LW poly barrel shot well. They weren't great in the raw. How does yours shoot the 25.39 mods? I was told by raw that that's what they're designed and tested to shoot.

Hey dreamweaver! I purchased mine from Ken Hick's of SPAW and he tuned it and adjusted the trigger to my liking. I have since been sending it in to Martin for servicing and he detuned it for 18gr JSB @ 970fps which then shoots the NSA 17.5gr @ 950-ish & 20.2 @ 930-ish both slugs are .2175 in diameter. Mine is basically "stock" but detuned. If you want to shoot slugs accurately you have the perfect platform as the .22 RAW's come standard with a non choked poly barrel, perfect for slug shooting. One just needs to find the correct diameter slug to impart spin as slugs are spin stabilized. Once you find the correct diameter, which you will notice right away with accuracy, then you can fine tune the speed. I found my barrel likes speeds of 920 and up for slug stability. I occasionally shoot the MRD 25gr and mine being detuned shoots them @ 870fps and very accurately, same accuracy as the 18gr. I shoot the 18gr as they are much more cost effective to shoot daily and the NSA slugs even though lighter than the MRD have better BC's for longer shooting and wind plus they are cheaper than the MRD's! The best MRD's are the newer shallow skirt designs, they are actually the older versions but JSB brought them back, hard to get ahold of tho. I hope this helps! Oh....and a clean poly barrel is much needed for consistent slug accuracy. I just cleaned my barrel about a half hour ago as my slug POI shifted 2 clicks more left while shooting this morning. JSB is also coming out with Monster Light's, 20.7gr, should hit shelves soon!

I just put in an order for a Huma regulator and tester to use to set the regulator. I was also talking with the guys over at Utah and bought a few more slugs to try. I really want to make sure that I can find the correct diameter slug before I break down and buy a Corbin press. Would HATE to buy the wrong die set and be out a large amount of cash.

I am hoping with the Huma regulator and gauge I will be able to really fine tune the rifle and find a great fit. I really want to get the Corbin going due to the 218 slugs giving me a standard deviation of 3 over a course of 30 shots! They can be so extremely accurate that if I can get the correct slug this rifle should be one hell of a shooter.

Thanks for all the info Ranchibi. Would you say it shoots the 18.1 the way you have it tuned as good as it would shoot the mrd from the factory? I'm looking for a tune that under good conditions can shoot a pellet or slug(groups of 5 shots) moa pretty consistently at 50 yards. My Brocock shiper will with both 18.1 as well as the mrds, but it has the advantge of a power selector.

I'd consider retuning it for 18.1, but I really wanted a 100 yard gun. Do you know about where your reg is set? I believe they come around 145 from the factory, but I can't confirm that.

Is that with Martin's original tune or did you adjust the regulator and hammer spring ?

It says right on the huma air web site that the regulator tester will not work with the huma regulator for the RAW. did it work for you ? If it did then I don't need to purchase a 2nd regulator from Martin that is pre set at a specific setting. I would much rather set it up my self. Please let me know if you are able to adjust your huma regulator fir the RAW

Indeed the RAW X guns will struggle to shoot the heavier weights and higher velocities .... The "Designed" comment is about right as they honestly lack sufficient plenum volume to maintain pressure with being asked to deliver higher power

What would I do just bring the huma reg. Tester to a machinist and have him match the threads in the tester to the regulator ?
I am going to do just that....and it happens that I have the machines to do just this. So will take the tester into work tomorrow and will make a tester. Honestly may make a new one so I don't screw up a good unit.

If you are successfully you should make a order for a bunch of them at a better price and modify them to fit and sell them fir a profit. Alot of people would buy them I bet.
