Hn hornet and polymag

How well does theese pointy pellets work? My local dealer said pointy is bad at longer range, but did not say how long is too long? Do they "work" up to 100m or are they mainly close range? The .25 hornet is only 22gr, can probably get a butload of shotcount with such light pellet.

All depends on the point. Any deformation and the pellet aerodynamics change in a unspecified manner. More defamation, more divergence. I've shot some pointed that were very consistent and others the broad side of a barn was possibly safe.

H&N Coppa-Spitzkugel were consistent.
H&N Excite were junk.
Umarex pointed fell in between.

Few years back bought a H&N .22 Hunting Pellet Assortment pack to find preferred for Benjamin Trail NP XL. Recently, tried each in Taipan Veteran Standard, which shoots JSB 18.1s with high accuracy. Dismal results until Hornet (16.20 grain) shot hole in hole @ 50 yards. Can't speak to .25 Hornet but I'll always have a back-up pellet for Taipan should JSBs become unavailable. WM

When I first got into airguns about 15 years ago I tried to get polymags to work in a variety of rifles. They never had the accuracy of my other pellets and eventually I just gave up on them. They had awesome expansion/deformation but just never the accuracy I wanted.

.177 hornets good to 45yds with zero wind at 915fps, by good I mean 1/2"

I had decent success with polymags and .22 metalmags out to 50y. I had no reason to push them further. They certainly punch into hide better than lead round heads.
