How cold is to cold?

somewhat normal for Wisconsin, There have been times when it became a 6 hour white knuckle to get home less than 15 miles although that is fairly rare.
I've seen it, Mom lived in wasau for a while. But here its rare.. So you add in a bunch of people who've never seen snow or ice, and the added Hazard of Hills... lots and lots of hills, large and small. And it becomes the world's most dangerous and largest pinball game.

I've been seeing a bunch of squirrels from my window. Too cold for me personally but they are still out there running around, just not as much in this cold snap.
My cat has caught 2 flying squirrels in this cold weather snap. Little turd brings them in alive and lets them go.
I might go sit in my blind this afternoon and look for squirrels. I was in it the last 2 days of deer season this past Sat and Sun. It was brutally cold and all I saw were squirrels.

Edited to add that I've hunted down into the single digits with PCPs and haven't had an issue. I usually put the gun outside to acclimate as I start to get dressed. I also leave them out with scopes uncovered when I come back inside until they are room temp and then I'll wipe them down with a Ballistol soaked rag for safe keeping.

What temperature do you guys not even try to hunt squirrel? Debating whether to try tomorrow with the high around 30° low is 12°. Got the M4 back and is zipping these 10gr very efficient!

Below 25ºF is a bit much for me. Done it once or twice. Once the sun comes out clear of clouds and the treeline it's a little easier. The wind is the biggest impediment for me in cold weather.

Here’s the thing about squirrel hunting in cold weather. Are you going to want to skin and clean them in the cold? Think about doing that with numb fingers after you’ve been hunting for more than an hour and limiting out. It’s especially a PITA on cold evenings around or after sunset. I’m talking about tree squirrels.

Went out this evening. When I came in it was about 35ºF. I saw most of the squirrel activity around dusk per usual. I shot at one I caught moving in the canopy out of the corner of my eye earlier in the evening and missed. The others, I elected to not pursue because my finger tips were numb and I didn't want to be out skinning and cleaning anything in cooler temps. I saw 2-3 more when I got back.

@addison Did you go out in the cold to hunt?

I went out and only saw 2. One going to the farm and one jumped out 5 yards away. I had no time to react. Same as you dusk is only time there moving. I have a spot 40 mins away from me that's sweet but don't want to burn a trip to not have any squirrel.

I think this is what qualifies as too cold. Damn this weather. Atlanta got plastered.. The Weatherman, the apps all said maybe a flurry or two after 6-7pm for maybe an hour or so.... Ended up hitting at 245... BARELY made it home, The snow was heavy and short lived, the problem is it stuck to the pavement, slightly wet snow, the temperature dropped and everything flash froze in a matter of one hour. In the span of less than one full hour the roads went from navigable to a solid sheet of ice. Took me 3 hours to get the 3.1miles from the interstate exit to my driveway. View attachment 531416
I have a question, what's that stuff on the road?

I recall back in my youth floating down the bayou in my pirouge at 25 degrees. I think about what could have happened if I’d turned over. Thankfully the Lord was watching out for me. Now, I’d hesitate to go woods walking at those temps. Down here in Louisiana the humidity with the cold goes to the bone. It was 15 this morning with snow on the ground. Nuts!🌰
