Bad mounts? I’m using Hawke 1 piece mounts. 4-12x40 Bushnell scope. It hurts my soul to see this. So the question here is what are the best mounts for magnum springers?

Flatten out the pointy bit of the stop pin so that it can't ramp up the side maybe? What gun is this?

X2 on what swirlfugger said. I've had good luck with the Leapers/UTG 1 piece mounts . they have a straight pin shape on the recoil lug. Another thing that helps is to run the pin in most of the way without completely tightening the dovetail clamps, then slide the mount rearward in the scope grooves until the pin hits the rear edge of the stop hole. Then tighten the dovetail clamps and run the pin all the way down. It's always worked for me.

I am so sorry for you. What a terrible design for a stop pin. There is very little room on the the new build Weihrauch’s with the internal metal sleeve. When starting to tighten the mounting screws just barely snug them. Then check the stop pin by tightening to light pressure making certain it is in the hole by sliding the mount back and forth in the hole. Then bring the mount rearward to the hole and tighten to quite snug. Then tighten the mounting screws. Degrease all parts and use a drop of Loctite. The one piece mount I use is the UTG. It has two stop pins that match the Weihrauch‘s spacing.

cone point set screw belong in someone's receiver but not in that gun's, failure doomed to happen,, like a ramp,, need a dog point set screw, but what size?

Yeah man, sorry for the damage it caused. It seems like that is just a poor design for a stop pin. I use the UTG one piece mounts pretty exclusively and have never had that issue on any of my HWs. Luckily they are pretty cheap.

That's why I use these on most of my Springer... BKL double strap!
Clean the dovetail from any grease and oil and lock these babies on...they also perfectly alien the scope to the bore!!!

I use Hawke mounts on most of my rifles and as already mentioned, I take a small file and file that point off. All it does is make the mount try to slide out of the hole as you've already found.
Also can't argue the BKL double strap rings since they're what I bought when I upgraded the stock on my own HW95 and wanted silver rings to go along with the silver in the adjustable cheek rest and butt pad that came on the new stock.

The bigger question is why is the mount moving enough to let the stop pin put that kind of force on the hole?
On an HW95 that's functioning properly, a one piece mount shouldn't move to begin with. A one piece has a LOT of clamping area. and a 95 is not exactly a "magnum" in most people's definition.
Maybe the mount doesn't fit the dovetails well, wasn't torqued enough/evenly, or the gun is slamming from a bad piston seal or loose bore?
My point is even if you'd had a mount with a properly engaging stop pin, it probably still would have deformed the hole from the excessive movement.
A BKL one piece mount would be my pick for your situation. They hold tight and won't gouge anything if they do move. I've used BKL two piece rings and they've never moved.

To me it looks like the stop pin was excessively tightened down and not aligned
properly with the receiver hole. Stop pins only need about 2 inch lbs of torque on
them at the most and flat bottomed stop pins work best.

For my magnum springer,a Browning Leverage 22cal. The rings that finally worked were BKL-258-200 series. They r a double strap xtra wide ring with 1.265" clamping surface. They r sold as ( singles ). I use BKL double strap rings on all my springers For my smaller scopes, the 2-7 x 32 Hawkes. I use the BKL-278 offset rings. I had tried one of their 1 piece mounts but the spaceing between front and back rings were 2 far apart for the scope I wanted it for. I should have looked for that before I bought it. Good luck
