So is there a trick to cutting foam without it looking like a beaver chewed it apart?

Buy this one.. Make sure its the 25mm blade ( 1" blade) It will shave you and you can adjust depth and then you will have a fine utility knife for other projects!!

I trace it upside down and backwards and then cut it with a razor blade and then flip it over to hide the tracing

Use an electric knife, hot knife, ori sharp razor....and always cut thr pocket smaller than you need. It is easier to make the slot larger, rather than make it smaller.

Red hot fine wire melts all foam types ridge and flexible. Most taxidermy shops will have set up, its the best most exact cut possible.

Real sharp filet knife or box cutter razor knife, be aware though , the knifes blade will dull super fast. Resharpen knife or change blade often.

Whatever instrument you end up using, try it out on a section that will be discarded before trying it on a desired contour line.
