How do you use a PRS buttstock/pad/plate?

What I'm talking about are those clamps seen on some butt plates.
I've never owned or shot a rifle with a PRS butt plate with the adjustable clamp design but I will probably be getting the Hatsan Factor FT and it comes with the butt plate I'm talking about.
I understand that you adjust the clamps to fit your shoulder but the part I'm unsure is the middle part, the part between the top and bottom clamp arms. It's such a small area, wont it hurt like hell after a while from that small part bumping into you over and over? Or is this a non factor because the recoil shouldn't be that big on an air rifle?
Are they comfortable? I assume you can screw in the clamps to lock them once you find a comfortable fit on your shoulder. Is the point of a prs butt plate that the clamp will help in always having the butt at the same place on your shoulder each time to minimize inconsistency in shots?

Can someone who uses this type of plate describe it's benefits vs a normal butt plate. Is it one of those "once you use it you can never go back" type of products?

if your naked it might bother you ,but no it is ok if you adjust it to fit. They are able to swing left and right and also for "cant " and vertical so you can have the butt fit your shoulder and keep the rifle vertical .
But sitting in just shorts on the porch with the rifle in one hand and a beer is what you do during summer :(

It's pretty much a non issue once the butt plate is adjusted to fit you. You will never even notice it.

Alternative is-

You chug the beer real quick, slip the coozy off and pad your shoulder with it to protect it from the butt plate.
After pulling off a spectacular long range head shot on a starling at 114 yards, you return the coozy to intended service, and pop another top.
