Tuning How do your read the M3 Front Valve Adjustment Knob?

Good question! I have been going with the 4 lines and counting the grooved lines as lines. I have the M3 in .35 and the M2 and both have the exact same number of lines. I saw on the manual the 6 lines on certain versions but have yet to see one M3 with 6 distinct lines/grooves...

I just went by the lines but now you have me thinking what if I was wrong and your second photo was/is correct...again, great question!!
 
Yeah, I could never make sense of that instruction. For a given second reg pressure and max hammer spring I backed it out until I didn't get any more velocity and then back in a touch. Then I used a caliper to measure the distance (9.4 mm@130 bar). My M3 is very sensitive to the position of the valve adjuster. So, just eyeballing it would not provide consistent tuning. It's also in a spot where you can move it accidentally, so easy enough to reset with the caliper.
