Tuning How does an M3 work?

20210623_124104.1624477790.jpg

Hey guys. I got an M3 in .22 on AGN. I understand that there are numbers on the quick tune setting thing and the dial.

What does the knob in front do?

Thanks -Nate @ Airgun Channel

P.S. ...if it adjusts reg #1, mine is set at 200. How would you adjust it back to the "out of the box" factory tune?

Hi Nate,

The dials with the numbers control the hammer spring preload. The knob in the front controls the valve return (basically how fast the valve closes after it is opened.) Screwing that knob in will close the valve faster resulting in lower power.

The regulator 1 adjustment is done by taking off the bottle and using a 2.5 mm allen (if i recall) to adjust. There is a screw stop that you may have to loosen in order to adjust the regulator. In general, I believe you want this 20-30 bar above reg 2. Reg 2 is the more important reg for controlling the projectile velocity consistency. Reg 1 just feeds reg 2 to "help" off-load some of the regulation work.

This video should be very helpful to you:

Glem, I bought one of those wrenches but I went all out and got one of the fancy ones.

It has a dual scale metric on one side and on the other SAE. I was also told if I had issues with the m3 not sealing because of a oring not seating I can wack it with this special Cresent wrench. I hope it can do more as I paid a fortune for it!

Info like this is so important, its not like someone can watch one of the 200 tuning videos over the past 6 years of the Impact being around to see what does what. It's not like someone can just do a search on the 100 page thread about Impact tuning right here on this very forum. That is a purty wrench there and would do a fine job on so many impact related tunes and tuning related impacts.

I'm short on time. The M3 is different from previous models.

Does it take a rocket scientist to shoot this gun?

I'm not trolling. I honestly don't understand what these knobs do or why. -Nate

That knob does the same thing it's done for 6 years. (Albeit slightly differently) It's even in the manual you have no time to read.

You have 5 minutes?

My gun didn't come with a manual...well it came with an MK2 manual...so I didn't read it.

That video is perfect. Thank you!

The M3 is intimidating to someone who doesn't know how it works. That's why I never bought an Impact for the last 3 years. I figured once the previouse owner turned a few adjustments, the factory tune would be gone and the gun would be shooting "not at it's best"...and I didn't think I would be able to fix that. So I just never bought an Impact.

Now I got one because the adjustments have markings on the M3. When I saw that knob in front, I thought my worst nightmare had come true. I had a $2500 gun that is actually a "puzzle". Those who solve the puzzle get to win contests. The rest of us get screwed.

But I'm not giving up. I'm going to figure out the M3, then explain it to others on my channel in a simple way.

Thanks for your help guys! -Nate

Yeah it's not a secret Fx or members are keeping like some exclusive club. Ernest and FX make plenty of masterclass videos that disassemble and tune the guns.

Yeah that manual is outdated but still shows that knob as the valve travel adjuster. If I were you I'd leave it at factory settings for a while and enjoy it, then after some researching and learning on your part go from there. There is a boatload of info out there from Ernest, AEAC, Dubber, Ted spend some time learning and your video will be accurate and helpful.

Have fun.

good luck.

Thanks guys! I'm watching all the M3 videos now. It's not too bad once you get into it.

The front knob does have markings as well. There are lines that tell you how far out the knob it. Lines 1-4.

...just waiting for pellets at this point.
