You don’t tune it. You set it so your gun can crack the valve. How much more strike you need depends on how far your reg creeps over night or after a week. That’s where my final HS setting always is. With these guns I cant believe how much strike they come set with. No wonder guys have valve problems. I wish the U2 .30 had a deeper mag. If I stick with my current slug, the mags are headed to the shop to be modified.Gotcha, so you would tune the hammer starting as low as possible and work your way up the hammer tension? Is this more prevalent the higher the reg is set?
Vulcan 3?

I think I understand. So is there a way to reduce the strike without modifying internals? You don’t tune it. You set it so your gun can crack the valve. Yes. The hammer spring adjustment screw. Just back off the little set screw on the bottom then back out the big adjuster on the back of the block.I think I understand. So is there a way to reduce the strike without modifying internals?
Gotcha, I may or may not look into it depending on how this new reg set works with the 33gr H&N precision slugs.Yes. The hammer spring adjustment screw. Just back off the little set screw on the bottom then back out the big adjuster on the back of the block.
I think I have the one set on my .30 finally. Letting the gun sit for a while to check the first shot. But that adjuster is backed out so far it’s hanging on by a couple threads. But it has a set screw so no worries.Gotcha, I may or may not look into it depending on how this new reg set works with the 33gr H&N precision slugs.
Does it affect the shot count at all? Having that strike hitting so hard, cause my guns has been very efficient. 100 plus shots at 48fpe, around 80-90 shots at 55fpe, currently at 65-66fpe and still getting more 4.5 mags before dropping to 200b from 270bI think I have the one set on my .30 finally. I mess with it because I focus on the guns overall vibes and how things look at full bottle vs refill time. I don’t think about efficiency. That’s a regular poppet valve thing.Does it affect the shot count at all? It would worth it for someone with a good bench and rest, to compare accuracy of Vulcan 3 700 mm vs. FX DRS 600 and super high power plenum..... Both with slugs at long range.
Maybe the DRS would give a surprise.....
I should add that the balanced valve seems to work well, and the U2 still had lots of reg pressure to go when it was set up for the 41 grain slugs. I have no doubt that it will easily launch 50 to 60 grain slugs at the same distance, but it would be single shot, unless you have modified magazines that will fit the longer, heavier slugs. It’s been my experience that 35, and 41 grains are quite capable of clean near instant eradication of pests and predators up to and including coyotes. As far as the “ping” from the plenum, I don’t think I have a special rifle by any means, but I do think that regardless of the claims of a “weak valve”(meaning physically weak), and “regulators failing”, and being finicky about the slugs, and pellets they are being fed, they are exceptionally well designed, and more importantly the “balanced valves” are very different to set properly, and probably require more explanation and understanding to master. I understand that they aren’t for everyone. I am also aware that the U2 is a very capable tool, and that I will have to spend quite some time learning to tweak and adapt it to fit all my needs on the farm. For my money spent, it is worth every dime to me. It will not be going anywhere,,, until I decide to go and see if the U3 might have a place in my toolbox.I’ve had my U2 for about two months now, and I’ve shot about 1400 35 grain .25 caliber Zan slugs through it at 35, 40, 50, 75, 100, and 150 yards. Average velocity 977fps. The accuracy is absolutely spectacular and I have never had a hiccup. From my tripod, I can get dime size groups at 100 and nickel sized groups at 150. Ive used 41 grain Zan slugs at 980 fps with similar results. With the reg still set for the 41 grain slugs, the 35 grain were at 1023 fps, and I didn’t see hardly any difference in the accuracy at all. In fact the accuracy is pretty much the same regardless of the weight of the slugs or pellets, so long as you don’t go much over1020 fps.
What slugs have you fed it ? I have a u2 600 mm that I’m trying to figure out . So far it has been the most accurate with hybrids . The only pellets it will shoot are aea. The fx and jsb are horrible like 2-6” groups at 60 yards .Yes, the safety on all my Uragans is vague, but they work. And I can operate them with ease. I’ve been shooting my .30 and so far I’m not overly impressed with it as a slugger. All shooting just at 75 yards so far. The one slug that shoots best kinda shocked me. I have one more slug I’d like to test before the barrel comes off and I sniff around. Right now it’s a 50 yard slug gun with the other slugs. For me, if a slug won’t outshoot a pellet out of any gun, it’s still a pellet gun.

I would have preferred a 600mm Uragan in .30 but I took a look at the weights of the slugs I was going to experiment with and knew I had to go 700mm. Short guns can pigeonhole you when testing. Especially as the caliber gets bigger. I had some lighter slugs produce good groups out of my 700, but it was only some of the time. As of right now a 63gr slug seems to be doing it all the time at about 885-890fps. That’s a big ask for a 600mm because even if you adjust your reg higher than mine to get a heavy slug moving, your air delivery will be different and the results will probably be different also.
The 600 mm sure handles great . I bought it because I didn’t have a 30 . I went down the 30 road before and said never again . I like to shoot my guns and shoot them a lot . A tin of 30 lasts half as long as a tin of 25 and doesn’t do twice as much of anything… power or accuracy! I just wanted a 30 cal for making a bigger hole in a coyote didn’t care if I was shooting pellets or slugs . Well the slugs got ahold of my attention so here I go . I really like the u2 platform and am strongly thinking about adding a 25 cal .
