How many people own a chronograph?

im not into super duper targeting or competition, but consider a chrono a necessity to set up a gun .. if for no other reason, its critical to know your flight arc to properly sight in the gun for the best kill zone also requiring a ballistics app .. its a game changer vs 'guessing' at a proper sight-in .. its totally wrong without those tools and understanding things trust me .. that said, anything will get the basic job done .. i use a cheap caldwell, its finicky BUT, i only need to set it up once in a blue moon when im changing something on a gun .. if your a target guy with a whole array of assorted fruity flavor pellets and like to play with a 1000$ scope twisting turrets from your lawn chair id get a more substantial chrono ...

I'm on my second Caldwell unit, it lives on a tripod with battery powered led light straps inside the skyscreens so I can use it inside my LED lit shop without errors.

I use 12v battery packs with a 9v buck to run the chrony and lights and shoot every indoor shot through the chrony.

It's a diagnostic tool and helps you see issues that may become breakages before any real damage occurs as well as a tool for tuning a gun or a pellet.

Indispensable....

I used to have a $100 chronograph that used visible light to detect pellets. I shot it one too many times, however, and it is now retired. I use two different chinese made chronographs that cost around $30 each. One clamps to the barrel and the other is made to tripod mount. They work great! They read in mps but it isn't hard to convert it to fps. Extracting data from them is too difficult for me so I just write down the readings as I shoot. They have rechargeable batteries so you don't even have that expense. You can get them from Amazon or Alliexpress. Amazon might not have the tripod mount one. I see no reason to go without a chronograph when these are so inexpensive and work so well. They very rarely do not register a shot and will work in all kinds of lighting conditions. The clamp on shifts the POI so I use the tripod one if I want to shoot groups as I measure velocity.

I have one. It's a very good tool for all guns, rifles
