I got lucky, A dive shop that I use is only about 21 miles from my house and the wife and I go to that town to shop a couple of times a month. Any further that that I would have bought a compressor too.

5 bucks at the dive shop 1 mile from me fills to non technical spec 3500ish psi. A paintshop about 7 miles away can fill to 4500 for 4 bucks...

Some of you fellows are getting great prices on the fills. 15 miles every now in then is ok for me but only guy in area. Probably will go to 6000 psi nitrogen bottle from air gas for simplicity and no moisture.

What is your cost for the nitrogen? Do people generally shoot more with a compressor knowing that you potentially have an "endless" supply of air?

My area is 120.00 year for bottle rent and 250.00 for a reservice. Good compressor is 3000.00 plus maintenance and upkeep. The nitrogen bottle can top a great white tank 8 times from 3000 to 4500. With my amount of shooting that is good for me and no moisture problems. Could be three years easy for me with one nitrogen bottle. I am a hunter so probably dont shoot the amount a target shooter does.

Nitrogen? Where does one get a nitrogen tank and refills? Does it cost less than filling compressed air tanks? No moisture? Why no moisture when refilling?

Welding supply and it cost more than letting someone fill your hand tanks yes. There is no moisture in there nitrogen. All our equipment does not like moisture. It is a pressure vessels enemy. I ended up getting 6000 psi bottle for 85.00 yearly rent and 150.00 refill (swapout) when needed.

I have a dive shop about 12 miles from my house. 8 bucks to fill to 4500. I usually get 4300psi on the great white after its cooled. I have a paintball place like 2 miles down the road that could do it but after seeing the filtration system the dive shop uses......I obviously dont mind the drive.

Same with me but I have to drive 18 miles and spend 8 bucks. I have never trusted a paint ball place because of moisture. I will get 45 to 4600, They will let cold for a little then top it off.

Have a few fill stations close to me (less than 10 miles).
The industrial gas supplier I frequent charges me $15 to fill my 60min SCBA from 0-4500psi (top off 3k-4,500psi is around $2-$3 for breathable quality dry air).

Scuba shop is 160 mile plus round trip so I have a 6K N2 Bottle (approx. 300 cu ft) $100 refundable bottle deposit, $50 a year lease, $70 to swap for a full bottle. So Far I have got 5 months and still have 4200 PSI. AirGas is too high so I am using a small Welding Supply that does their own fills.

It cost me $8 to fill my CF tank at the paintball shop. I drop it off for a couple of hours so they can let it cool down and top it off several times. It's away 4,500psi when I pick it up. I'm luck because they're only 15 mins away.
None of the scuba shops here are willing to go 4,500 psi. They said it's too hard on the compressor. The wear and tear doesn't justify the fill cost.

Can one fill carbon fiber tank with NO2?
After all the air we breath/fill tanks with is 78% NO2

Being new to this, I had my Great White filled ( 4800 psi ) from empty for $14.00. The place I had it filled told me that when they fill bottles for firehouses they let them cool down overnight and top them off in the morning. He offered to do that for me but I declined.
In the morning I thought I had a problem, the bottle went from 4800 psi to 4000 psi. I knew there would be a drop in pressure but not that much. I call the guy back and ask if I could bring it in and have it topped off and he said yes. After topping it off at 4700 psi this time it dropped to 4500 psi and held.
Lesson learned....I'll always leave the bottle overnight and have it topped off in the morning.

The heat sink issue is not that prominent servicing from 3000 to 4500. You should not need an overnight now.

I have a 90ci ninja tank 4,500 psi I use it down to about 2,800 psi.
The dive shop I use to go to 35 min from my house charged me $6.00 regardless for a fill.
I now go to a paint ball shop 10 min from my house now and he usually fills my tank for free can't beat that.

I have been paying $10 per 1k psi, driving 50 miles round trip to drop off the tank, fifty miles to pick it up. Some times they only fill it to 4k which is only good for about a week.
I finally got tired of it and quit buying air.
Now I have a lifetime supply for me my kids and friends. No more partially filled tank, no more conserving air (by not shooting) so I will have enough for next weekend. No more wondering how much water I got with my last fill.
