My new akela reduces dia. of projectile from .1775 to .173 Isn't it too much , it leaves tails of lead.
Yes seems too much unfortunately i already polished barrel thinking the same way.Yeah that's a heavy choke. With a starting point of 0.1775, a couple thousandths would probably be more optimal. Doesn't necessarily mean it will perform poorly but if it's like most barrels, bore roughness will exacerbate the tendency to leave trailing bits behind the head and skirt so if you can give it a good scrubbing, it may improve substantially. Whether it's fire lapping, a cast lap, or a compressible lap (e.g. jag+cotton patches+JB).
I'd have to remove the barrel again to get pictures but the pellet on left would be pretty close . I pushed pellet up to choke area then back thru breach, it looked fine, with very lite rifling marks .Can you get a close-up photo of a pellet or two? Something like this:
