How much to dispatch a Skunk

I made the mistake of using 5 trash bags to dispose of a skunk, closing each bag by tying knots. The a put it inside an outdoor trash can that gets picked up once a week. Big mistake! In 2 days later my wife is bitching about the smell in the driveway. To save my marriage, I removed the bag and relocated it to a public trash can in the middle of a lot outdoor parking lot.

I've seen a turkey vulture once land in my backyard. I have a video of it. However they are not reliable enough to depend on to remove a skunk soon enough.
We have a ton of them here. Nothing gets unnoticed for very long. Most things are gone by mid morning.

I live fairly close to open fields so I take the body in a trash bag and drop it next to the road into the open field. The wild life will take care of everything by next morning.

My outdoor cats were fed twice a day and any food that they didn’t eat within five minutes went straight back into the big food can. If food was left out we’d get opossums and raccoons but luckily no skunks.
We just started to put their food and water on a table. I watched a skunk try for an hour to climb up the legs. They get fed and I'm off doing my things.

I just got this guy last night with my
Notos .22 using JSB 13.43 @783 fps / 18 ft lbs

Walked about a foot or 2 and just stopped. Only 15 yards away and no spray. Some pics and short video that my trailcam caught of the skunk creeping around on the link below

How well would a .177 with beasts or monsters work at 800 fps at the muzzle and skunk at 23 yards? A skunk keeps trying to empty my coon feeder but I'm too chicken to shoot it due to the fears of a smelly problem. It would only be 10' away from a building. Bad shots happens and even with a good one it may run off or spray. I could also hit it with a 60 fpe .25 but that may get the skunk more upset!

Skunks get along in suburban environments pretty well. They even get along with most dogs. I'm not sure I've ever had much problem with them around the house. They are smart critters. They eat scorpions and grubs. A fairly beneficial critter to have around.

I've been sprayed and the dogs have been sprayed almost every spring fishing. Yeah it stinks. As long as no one gets it in their eyes it's really no big deal. It smells like black coffee and bacon. It stops bothering you fast. It stops bothering everyone else in about 3 days.

Pumice soap works dandy. It shortens the stink time. The dog gets lathered up with pumice soap and baking soda. As long as you strip off any clothing wet with the stuff it won't spread around. As long as the dog dosent jump up in the front seat of your new truck and wallow around its just another day in the field.

I've live trapped a bunch of them. You just cover the trap with a tarp. I release them rather than kill them. Never had more than a little stink. I do my best not to stress the animal too much. It's no big deal to trap and remove one. A heck of a lot better than trying to shoot one with a pellet rifle. It stinks a lot less too.

Plenty!!! It’s best with 177 because it would penetrate both lungs and pass right through without causing major trauma to the skunk which would cause it to immediately spray. I posted a video long ago with the skunk looking around wondering what’s going on after being shot.

With that said I would still leave them unless they cause damage. Having skunks eating the bait may attract coons, best trap for coons are the hand cuff traps which the skunks can’t get to the bait anyways.
