How to choose a PCP having never touched/shot a PCP?

Lots of great suggestions. Many of the guns I have on my list. Now need to clear up a few things. Maybe adjust the budget. Take care of daughters college tuition and just pull the trigger. Easy.

Dang you almost cut me with that. This is what I have. Had it for probably 25 years. Daisy model 131 with a very cheap scope Loud and not that accurate anymore. So, well overdue for an upgrade. Haha

Do like the rest of us. Buy your first figuring it has all the features you want or need. Later, you’ll wish it could do something else. Before you know it, you’ll have had 10 or 12 different guns. This is a disease, you know.

There is the gods honest truth. Everything I’ve read on this thread is dead on. You pays your money and you takes your chances .

I was just in your shoes not long ago. I have had my toes in the airgun world pool for awhile but never could muster up the courage to dive in. Until I did.

I landed on the FX Impact .25

I also bought a Yong Heng compressor and a additional Moisture/oil trap.

I couldn't be happier. Its very quite, very accurate, and feels amazing in the hands.

Remember to consider how you will shoot the most. I would love to have a Bullpup. But if you would like to keep to one gun you may find they are difficult to shoot. They dont seem to hold well for me, and without a repeatable cheek weld. Any chance you can get somewhere you can hold and or shoot any. You can't go wrong with a classic like a Huntsman.

Something to consider. Thanks

Tell us what you want to spend. I would not worry about the quality or performance of any of these real popular guns. There are a small percentage that have trouble. Price and whether or not you want a bull pup. We’ll get ya fixed up.

Wow that's dangerous. So I would like to be at the $1500 range just for the gun. I need everything to start. I'm open to a Bull Pup but don't like the idea of a back side lever cocking, like on the current Taipans or I probably would have jumped at one of them. I'm fine with a nice used gun as well. Thanks

I recently got a taipan and the back side lever cocking is really not too bad in my opinion, I hunt quite a bit and i’ve never really needed that quick of a follow up shot because the gun is lights out accurate. My opinion probably doesn’t mean as much because I don’t own a side lever gun so maybe if I did I would find the back side lever cocking more of an annoyance but so far the taipan has done all I wanted and more and I haven’t had a single problem.

I had this gun!!!

I own an FX Wildcat and a Royale 400. They are both excellent guns. If I was just plinking in my backyard I would shoot the Royale.

If the Continuum was around when I bought the Royale it probably would have been my choice.

I’ve handled the new Brocock Bantam XR and it feels excellent in the hand, a very nice mix between the feel of the Royale and the WC. It would be very high on my personal list as well.

I would also take a close look at the new Huntsman. They have an excellent reputation for being reliable and accurate. I think the new side lever is an improvement over the old bolt for my tastes.

There are so many excellent airguns to choose from it’s hard to go wrong.

Hi OP,

Shoot them.

It might be a good idea to find some folks near you shooting PCPs so you can get some trigger time on the different models. When I started out I thought I knew exactly what I wanted w/o shooting any of these guns. I was not correct in my initial decision. Not that there were bad guns but I found my shooting style, shooting range, and personal "fit" was not optimal.

I also wanted a mid-cocking gun. Went through several "conventional" form airguns. Then decided I wanted a bullpup. Nope. Long bullpup. Nope. Compact bullpup, mid-cocking. Close. I picked one with a solid hunting trigger but not refined. Compact bullpup rear side-lever with very nice trigger. Yep. Not what I started out looking for. For myself the rear sidelever works just fine and is very smooth. Mid-cocking would be nicer I guess but I don't even notice when I'm out in the yard. All 22. My eyes don't do .177 any more.

And then there are the air sources. Another long story.

In short. Get out shooting with some PCP airgun buddies. Everyone will want you to shoot their hardware. Might have to drive some. Much more affordable than my route.

Good Luck,

Stay safe,

Nugria
