How to choose a PCP having never touched/shot a PCP?

Crown Continuum would have been my first PCP if it had been available waaay back then! Think this would meet all your requirements.

I considered it, but keep reading all the posts about getting their FX's to work right. Is that just the Impacts and Wildcats they're talking about?

If your are a REAL GUN shooter you might not like the bull pup. I’ve got one and I’m ok with it but much prefer a real gun configuration. Lots of good recommendations made. I’ve have or had a lot of different guns. Clearly not as many as YO but that daystate huntsmen regal revere is something I believe everyone would like. Looks like a nice 22 rim fire. Handles similarly and when they show up on the classifieds they always sell. I’ve got an FX crown and a daystate red wolf plus a couple RAW guns and yes even an impact and the huntsman is still the only gun I regret selling. I’ve had brockcock and crickets too. Crickets a darned nice gun but I’d want a carbine not a pull pup.

That is correct but the older rear bolt action Regal XL would be more traditional for a firearm shooter wouldn't you think?

I was in the same boat, new shooter, haven’t fired anything but an old break barrel my dad had when I was a kid. Super impressed with how pcp guns have evolved and just wanted something to enjoy shooting to start with. But I do like quality and good design so those were factors in my decision.

I wanted my first gun to be an edgun Leshiy 2 but since those aren’t available yet I went with a Lelya 2. It’s a bullpup, but the cocking lever is towards the front and on both sides of the gun. I bought a single shot tray from huma for it as well.

There are several great youtube videos available and lots of praise for the Lelya 2 but it was this video that really sold me on how fun this gun is to shoot:

I figure this one will keep me happy until the Leshiy 2 is available and still wanting to shoot it after I get that shiny new semi auto.

Eventually I want to get a more traditional rfile and maybe a big bore as well, but that’s a whole other round of research :)

OR just buy an RWS DIANA 54 or 56 in 22 shoot up to 200 yards. Most accurate recoilles long range shooting Springers made today. No additional gear like compressor or tank to buy. They're just LOUD. Put on a LEUPOLD EFR 6.5-20x40AO with custom shop reticle and a set UTG gun specific drooper mounts Warne QD Rings and all set.

So my dilemma is how do I choose a PCP having never touched/shot a PCP? I've talked myself into and out of so many different PCPs it's not even funny. I'm so intrigued by the power, accuracy and consistency that I see folks getting out of their PCPs. The problem is I want that "Best/Perfect" PCP to get started on and not have too many regrets. I have a little over an acre yard so I can easily set up targets up to 50/60 yards.(As long as the nosy neighbors aren't spying on me) I won't slant the suggestions by telling you the guns I've considered. Basically all of them. LOL

Things I want

  1. Reliable
  2.  Accurate
  3. Decent power. Open to .22 or .25
  4.  Decent shot count with a possibility of shooting single shot.
  5. Quiet
  6. Compact - I'm 5' 7" so nothing crazy long.
  7. I like the idea of an all around gun that I can target shoot and do pesting. So basically the One Gun Challenge gun. Not interested in going out hunting. At least not right now.
  8. Benchrest friendly
  9. Side Lever Forward Cocking

Thanks for your help in advance.😵

  1. OP - Yo has more guns by himself than anyone on the forum combined. I am sure he will sell you one at your price point that meets your needs. Heck, I don't think even he can shoot all of his guns.

I'm teasin' ya Yo, but you gotta admit, it's not a bad idea! Win/win for both of you. You help a new guy out and now you can free up some space in "one" of your 25 gun safes!

    😃

What about a Benjamin Marauder!

I think you meant it as a joke. I've seen Marauders I've owned shoot extremely well.
Will Piatt's son beat every rifle & shooter in competitions with a "Marauder."

Just saying.

To original poster. I don't know if you're a righty or lefty but the Vulcan Gen 2 is forward cocking ambidextrous and super precise shooter. You can get one for under $1500 and with a CZ barrel I doubt you'll find better.
I've owned Daystates and wouldn't mind a HP .22 w/ Heli board.

If you want FX ST they're great. I don't like the marketing; here's a liner. Here's a better liner. Here's a heavy superior liner. Come on. If you want to be a Beta tester, well fine. I'm happy with original Smooth Twist for pellets to 200 and custom faster twist cut barrels for slugs past 200 yards.

For size, light weight and overall adaptability at the mid-lower end, I would go DreamTac Compact.

For more of the same and ultra adjust ability at the moderate-high end, FX Impact.

For the best bang for the buck decent rifle (reportedly), AV Avenger.

Never did bench rest so I didn't consider it.

Lots of great suggestions. Many of the guns I have on my list. Now need to clear up a few things. Maybe adjust the budget. Take care of daughters college tuition and just pull the trigger. Easy.

"TAKE CARE OF DAUGHTERS COLLEGE TUITION AND JUST PULL THE TRIGGER."...

''EASY" DAISY 880!

22 BENJAMIN MAXIMUS WITH A TKO AND CHEAP $28 CHINESE HAND PUMP WITH A $70 FILTER THAT COST MORE THAN TWICE AS MUCH AS THE PUMP!

FX Royale 400 (.22) or Royale 500(.25). Traditional rifle style, VERY quiet (yes, truly backyard friendly), incredibly accurate, reliable & trouble free. No tinkering needed they're friggin unreal out of the box BUT, and it might be a deal breaker depending on your criteria, they DO NOT shoot slugs. Wasn't a deal breaker for me because they're "bench rest " accurate & deadly. A head shot is a head shot whether it's pellets or slugs.

The new Daystate Huntsman is a very good recommendation. I also recommend the HW100 as a do-it-all rifle in the medium power category. I confess to being in the substantial minority on FX. IMO the only FX rifle worth owning is one of the original Royale class, 400, 500, or Boss, depending on your needs. But again, I may be in a group of one on that issue. Have fun, it's only money. And your daughter can take a year off and shoot with you, they'll have school next year too!
