How to identify a genuine Yong Heng compressor?

Hello folks,

Season's Greetings!

I am new on this platform and it's nice to join!

I need a hi-pressure compressor for my pcp air guns, as two of my handpumps failed. After looking around and checking, I think Yong Heng should be the one I pick, considering the cost and durability. But there are tons of YHs and I don't want clones or fake YHs. Could you let me know where I should go to get a real one? I know Aliexpress is the correct website to go but I prefer not since I had some bad experience with them before. Besides, in case I end up with a bad machine, it won't be easy to handle returns, if returns are acceptable like what they said.

One more question. There are four types of YH at least as far as I know: basic, hardcover, auto stop and set pressure. If I buy it from Amazon, there won't be any option for me to pick, like I want hardcover one. The price at Amazon goes like $289, $329 and quite a few more. Why are they different? Only the one at $329 has the metal plate attached at one side of the cover. Not sure if I can use it as an id for being genuine.

Any recommendations are welcome.

John

John, Welcome to the forum, glad you're here. Searching "Yong Heng," in upper right page corner search box, will open up a mountain of knowledge. Using "Biohazardman," in member search box, even better. Quick tips, as follows. Don't trust seller advertising pictures, they're generic. Authentic Yong Hengs will have a metal ID plate as pictured, identifying YongyIheng Pneumatic Company as manufacturer. Chinese copyright laws are loose but they seem to draw the line at false manufacturer identity. Check "Specification Chart" of any YH

seller, avoid any stating manufacturer other than Yong Heng or YongyIheng Pneumatic. Contact sellers who state Yong Heng as manufacturer to verify ID plate states YongyIheng Pneumatic Company and what recourse available if not true on unboxing. WM

What @WorriedMan said! ☝️ ☝️ ☝️ I knew he'd be chime in. His model # on tag is YH-QB-01. I'm on my 2nd one after 3.5 years of service (same model) & full refund when it died. GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!! At the time it cost me $38 for 4 years protection & obviously worth it. My new one (8 months old) is
model # 30QB-SD. See if you can get that one now (hardcover). It's even more robust than my 1st & faster filling in comparison. 8 months in & my oil is still crystal clear. Good luck.

Gerry,
Had your Amazon authentic YH seller in my notes but can't find it, I'm sure OP would appreciate knowing. Sad to say the only way we can find an authentic YH seller is if a member reports back after unboxing. WM
Originally bought from Smarketbuy (Amazon). Can't remember if it was the same vendor this last time. I'll get back to you with that. BOTH times I verified that I was getting an AUTHENTIC YONG HENG before buying.
EDIT: This last one I got in February (so, it's been 10 months of use). Vendor was TOPDEEP, price was $292. Wow, 10 months of use & no oil discoloration! (Husky, non detergent, full synthetic)

Always curious as to reports of Yong Hengs failing within weeks/months while others last years. Highly suspect sub-par clones are the culprit but owners often take offense when asked if authentic. "Sure it was authentic, had YONG HENG printed on the side in bold letters." Of course, we know first thing cloners do is print YONG HENG on side. Can't say only perfection comes out of YongyIheng Pneumatic or an owner hasn't killed one by abuse/neglect/lack of knowledge but still seems a shame if some hold YH in disrepute because of crooked cloners. WM

I agree. My experience with them has always been on the plus side. Don't know if it's luck, the way I treat things that I can't afford to replace often or following the directions of others who've owned before. Whatever the case I wouldn't hesitate to do it again (& treat it the same way). In my experience, once they're set up they're so easy to maintain & operate & keep me "aired up".

Yes, except for the "tremendous hassle" of placing pump in bucket and filling with water. WM

Do your research and you will be fine. I used mine for many years and didn't have many issues I couldn't fix.

I would suggest along with the extended warranty would be to also get a rebuild kit or two. These compressors are quite simple to work on and are quick to fix if needed.

I actually opened mine up and filed the connecting rod clean of all the flashing and extra gobs of metal, and made things smooth. It honestly really helped the compressor and it sounded so much nicer. I also got rid of the crappy stock gaskets and made some from a thicker gasket material sheet

I have my YH since 2019 with some 65 hours on it, I rebuilt it (usually the second high pressure piston) about ones a year with complete low-high pressure cylinder kit assemblies from aliexpress. And I already own parts for next surgery.
If I would go again from fresh start I would buy a new largest CF tank - or two - and pay a full year refill membership in a dive shop.

Today my Yong Heng quit producing air...or a very low volumn. SOOO what do i need to do,buy a rebuild kit and tear it down? Change A gasket or something? I have over 4 years on this compressor, been very satisfied just pissed that it runs but wont build any serious pressure.thanks guys.
DON"T TEAR DOWN BEFORE DIAGNOSIS! I did and ended up replacing gasket and SS line because I didn't realize a quick-disconnect "O" ring had failed elsewhere in the system. Insert dead-head pressure test plug (pictured) in end of fill whip. Air compressor, shut off under pressure, use soapy water spray bottle to check system for leaks. ALWAYS RELEASE PRESSURE BEFORE RESTARTING. Ruling out external system leaks is first step. WM

As WorriedMan says, do a COMPLETE leak diagnosis FIRST! Make sure you spray & check the Dowty seal (bonded washer) that's on the top of High pressure cylinder yet under the nut of the tubing connected on top of that cylinder. Should be a brass colored washer that's in direct contact with top of cylinder. I'll post a picture when I can. NOTE: OK, the brass "washer" I'm pointing to with the o-ring pick is what I'm referring to. COMMON place for leaks & loss of pressure. Spares usually are included with YH.

Found what I did wrong. The explosion valve,I blew out the disc. I now see I have to pry off A brass ring then drop disc in and screw back into compressor. I did A paste to show you guys. A cheap fix at least ! Pete

Good deal, some day you might need to tear into it, just not today. WM

Happy new year!
I followed what Garry said about the vendor 'Topdeep' and found it. But it doesn't look like a genuine one at Amazon. There is no metal plate on the other side of the machine cover. The specs are kind of incomplete and so on. If I want to stay with YH, I will go to Aliexpress.com. The machines there look genuine and shipped from the factory where YH machines are manufactured. Another option: forget about YH, what about Vevor? It looks like Vevor uses YH parts and put them together into a machine, called 'Vevor'. It's a YH by nature. Correct? I guess they are more decent than the YH clones, agree? Besides, it's cheap. At Ebay, it will cost about $161 with free chipping (my wife and I went to an Italian restaurant yesterday for lunch and it costed us $145 ($120 plus $25 tips)). The only thing that I am worried about is that I didn't see any options of warranty. I will talk to the vendor if I am serious to buy.
Thanks again guys, for your info!
