How to implement Spring stopping guide for in-line guns like airforce and evanix rex

I know there are a lot of very creative and talented folks here. Has anyone thought about a spring stopping guide for a gun with the airforce or evanix Rex design?

These guns have the spring and hammer actually surrounding the barrel and are cocked forward. The spring stopping guide would have to be cylindrical and also be able to surround the barrel so it can’t rely on a central threaded metal post to hold a nut to retain the spring.

I know these guns are power houses but I don’t know to what degree a device like this might extend the shot count a little bit.

A simple solution would be to get a shorter, stronger spring. Just short enough to allow the hammer to free float. I have another idea but I’ll have to sketch it later

I never thought about a spring stop. I have had great results with the oring behind the top hat mod.

Agreed on the short stiff spring, or a cartridge design like the one Scott presents here

The advantage of the cartridge is you can add shims/washers to fine tune the preload, whereas finding a short stiff spring with just the right properties could be tedious.

He can’t make the cartridge design because the barrel is going through the hammer spring.

Yep. Short stiff spring seems like the logical solution. Still… it would be interesting, just for the heck of it, to try to figure out what a spring stopping guide might look like in that air gun.

There’s definitely a way to do it. You have enough room in between the spring and the barrel to make some type of mechanism.

Either that or nest between the barrel and the spring, where there is more clearance.

It could be done with a larger threaded rod bored out to slide over then you would need to remove threads on one part and make a smooth end cap that could slide on the one end and threaded end cap to adjust tension once the smooth end cap is in place you could spot weld around the end so it wouldn't slide off the end but could still move freely back and forth the threaded end cap could be removed to install the spring and tension it you would have to play with the length to get it correct and size smooth end to get hammer fit correct or possibly machine a correct hammer to fit over the spring guide stop properly so I think it could be done and help with gammer bounce or control power wheel wouldn't really be useable but threaded end would act as the power wheel was before
