How would you start getting into AGs with a 700 dollar budget?

Spysir - you hit it on the nose. Stay with a proven design. Get out and shoot, don't take a chance on getting a gun that isn't 100% reliable until you have some experience. My Marauder is an excellent gun and I don't plan on selling it even though I now have an Impact. It's extremely quiet. The trigger is an excellent adjustable two stage that works incredibly well. Solid proven design.

The last thing you want is a gun that just doesn't quite work. Takes all the fun out of it.

Maybe you could look at the Marauder pistol AKA the Prod (woods walker), It a great pistol but a better carbide. You can pick them up for $359 on Amazon. There's a used one in the classifieds right now thats a Mac tuned.

2nd there are a ton of DIY mods and how to's on the Prod. I think just about every body has one or been around one. This will help you learn and grow your interest.

Your in the same boat i was in just a few years ago. I had $500 and was looking for my 1st PCP. I picked up a Brocock Contour from AOA for....$500. I figured if i bought the the rifle, I'd find the $ for everything else. Well, i lucked out with a $35 scuba tank off craigslist, and the item that attaches to it to fill the gun for another $100 on sale. I havent regretted my purchase as it is a very accurate 15FPS gun. Keep lookin, you'll find what you want.

Hi all,

I would like to get into Air guns but currently only have about a 700 dollar budget to get into it. Looking for a good reliable gun I can maybe can deal with some gophers in my house and perhaps go hunting for some small game like rabbits. I was looking into a Brocock compatto you might find new for about 699 on sale, preferably I have been looking into buying a used one to make more budget for the other things I would need like a scope, rings, hand pump, etc. I was also looking into getting maybe a used Marauder Synrod/Mrod package from a user that might have most things i need.

Most people i talk to tell me to save for the most expensive gun i can buy from the start...

I am curious to hear opinions and ideas from experienced shooters, and people that have spent money in AG to point me in the right direction. What to buy, what to not buy , etc...

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew the Benji MRod is a great gun to start with I would even go so far to say that there a very few PCP Airgunners out there that didn't have one at one time or another any many that started with one.

They are an easy PCP to Mod and upgrade, quiet, accurate, and fun.

Do you have have a scuba shop around you? Usually you can get a tank filled for around 15 bucks give or take and a scuba tank will give you a lot of refills for the money .

I've punched a lot of squirrels and armadillo's clock with my MRod

I will make a couple recommendations. With your budget, you are going to be a hand pumper. If you really love to shoot, you are going to be a pumping madman. If you buy a gun with a big air tube or tank, it would be wise to buy a good hand pump. And that's not an Ebay $100 pump. You also run the risk of being found 10-7 if you are not in shape. For your first gun do lots of research. Find the type of gun you want and read what guys say about filling it up. A dude posted about the Hatsan Flashpup. Everything I have seen on that gun looks good for a hand pumper. it even has great or maybe a little too much velocity and good shot count. But, a bullpup is an acquired taste. Read, ask question, read and ask even more questions. PCP guns are dangerous for the clueless. The members on any airgun forum are the friendliest most helpful guys that I have ever encountered on forums. Any question you ask, coming from a newbie, will get answered. I was just reading on another forum where a guy broke out his credit card, ordered all the stuff he read he needed and came very close to having something bad happen. He was lucky. Unlike firearms, PCP guys usually don't have a neighbor, friend or family member to show them how to fill, trouble shoot and tune a PCP. Last thing is you don't need a mega dollar scope for a PCP. Good gun, good pump first. Good scope down the road. A wicked little Chinese air compressor can be purchased for the same amount as a Hill hand pump. But high pressure electric pumps are no joke either. Hand pumping is the way to go for someone new.

Here’s my two cents. For your budget you can get a no compromise springer or an entry level or used PCP. I’d go for a springer. Probably an HW97. You will not regret owning that gun even if you get the bug and get into the PCP stuff later. Compromises are often disappointing and pumping might take all of the fun out of it.

I have a bunch of nice PCP guns and one springer an HW 30 I’d never part with it. The simplicity is appealing

Depends on what you want to do....

Target shoot, hunt or just plink?

In any case.....check the classifieds and buy used.

Maybe a Marauder or Airforce....But there are some good accurate guns out there that aren't all that much new so used is always better. I'd say most of the PCP guys baby their guns so used is a good gamble.

Good luck

Talon-p for 450.00, hand pump for 39.00 on eBay, works perfect, butt stock for 70.00, and a Donny FL moderator, 150.00. and your happy, I shoot the crud out of mine, and I love it. I still need a stock and moderator. And. It pumps easy, with lots of power. And you can make it an escape. 100 ftlb rifle with a 24 inch barrel. 200.oo bucks,

I could come up with two ideas right off the top of my head..

1 would be to grab a Nova Freedom - since they have built in hand-pumps.
I have one.. It is so much fun to shoot, light weight, extremely accurate [making it even more fun]
and you'll never run out of air - just keep pumping it back up Around 200 bar [filled]
I'll get 10 to 20 good shots, then re-pump 15-20 times - if that, and keep the pressure needed for good shots.

They're only a few hundred dollars, so, you can play around with one of those - while saving up for more!

2 would be to get into a budget rifle like a Kral Puncher Breaker. I absolutely love mine!
I think I payed around $400 for mine, and then had a few hundred dollars left over for an air source..
I found a Yong Heng high psi air compressor on FleaBay for under $250.

That'd be within price-range, and be everything needed to get going - minus pellets.

=)
