Huben Huben gk1 .22 or .25

So I'm looking into a gk1. I currently have a PCP in .22 but have wanted a .25 for problem raccoons and hunting squirrels. The .22 works well and I love the idea of tuning down to shoot 12 grain wad cutters and then going up to 25 or 33 then jsbs. I guess my question is with the heavy .22 pellets weighing the same as .25 pellets is there a reason to get the .25? Does it still "hit harder" given the same weight and speed? Note...I don't tend to shoot slugs.
Thanks

In either caliber for raccoons you would have to hit him in the brain if you don't want them walking off into a neighbor's yard. In that case either 22 or 25 would work equally as well as long as your pellet hits perpendicular to the skull. One can argue for equal weight and equal FPE a 22 would even be better than the 25 for penetrating the skull. I using it an .25 Edgun R5m for raccoons and a gk1 in 25 is actually more powerful. However the R5m is easier to aim and shoot than a GK1. I do have a GK1 in 177 I use it as a plinker and for pistol Target practicing more than for pesting. For pesting I prefer rifles much easier to hit the spot.

You didn't ask this but the 25 caliber has a higher maximum energy level than the 22 for various reasons that other people here can explain better than me. I think they high end for the 22 caliber is in the mid 60's fpe-wise, whereas the 25 can get up to mid 80's. Not sure how this works out with the actual pellet offerings available out there, because I'm sure you need a heavy projectile to get those higher numbers in both calibers.

if the pellets are the same weight it still comes out with more energy out of the 25 because of the greater surface area for the air to act upon on the larger diameter pellet.

Yeah I have learned to hit them in the head from the side for sure. I primarily hunt squirrels and plink. Thinking the .22 may be best

I have a 25 cal taipan vet compact shooting about 45 fpe. Always one shot and done headshots at 35yds. I make a kissing noise and they look at me without moving for about 3-5 seconds. Gives you plenty of time to line up a good shot. I imagine a X from ears to eyes and aim at the center of the X if that makes sense. Helps if they are looking down slightly. I also find that domed pellets penetrate the skull best.
