I Have to believe that I didn‘t have my .22 MRD’s going Fast Enough this past weekend… Wind was really pronounced 15 mph, variable and gusty. A very Bad day for hoping to achieve any consistency with an air rifle.
Tried shooting 1st time at 100 yds anyways with new Crown Mk II / 600mm rifle. Reg was at 135 Bar., TX Port Large and Hammer at 18-19 (after setting cam for max travel) was slinging the MRD’s at 910 fps. Dial on 23 was only into 930ish. Rifle was Also shooting the FX Hybrid 22gr Slugs at the Same Velocity per dial as the MRD’s. I was able to select Trans. Port in Medium and dial down to 5-6 for about 900 fps for Exact Hvy 18.1’s.
Results were that the 18.1 Exacts held about 3-4 Inches on a little steel plate at 100y. I was figuring that the MRD pellet was going to blow the little ones way…but No Way. Those redesigns going 905-910 fps were a Disaster in the winds. Terrible 5-6 Inch grouping with even some Missed Shots!! Just awfully Bad.
Real Display of just How Good & Impressive the Ballistic Coefficient of those FX Hybrid Slugs in 22 gr. came when trying them on a whim at the Same 905-910 fps at same steel disc at 100 yds. My God did they fly well in those bad, shifty Winds! Of 5 shot in one string 4 of them all piled into about 1 Inch and the 5th was only another 1/2 - 3/4 away.
I have literally Not even shot 400 pellets or 30 slugs through this gun yet and I am just loving the intimate association with building and observing its accuracy and behaviors with different Ammo and Velocities. This has got to be the Ultimate rig for gun loving fiddler types (if you don’t want the chassis configuration of the other “super-gun” they make.)
I think will go up to 145 on Reg. and try to get to 950-960 with those MRD’s in the 600mm Superior Pellet Liner. I won’t be chasing them beyond that I dont think.
Again, though, just Flabbergasted at how Straight those FX Hybrids flew down that blustery 100 yd range with all the bushes around swaying and bending to arrive at a 1” cluster of 4 hits. Impressive. Bet I would have had a difficult time trying to do that with a bolt action .22 shooting some hi-grade Eley…
Any helpful input in the MRD .22’s in 25.4 grain encouraged. (Or other comments in general of course.)
