Huggett vs. newcomers?

Apologies for my long absence here.

It's been 5 years since I thought much about .177/.22/.25 moderators. (I've been using two Huggett Snipes 6.75", and have been basically content.)

So.. fast forwarding to TODAY... (and my new BRK Ghost Plus .22) is Huggett Snipe still taking excellent care of moderating our sound levels, or is there something/anything else (0db?) that clearly eclipses the long-revered Huggett Snipe in reducing air gun sound?

Huggett has been my go to mods. I will say however, that the STO Falx is a really good piece of work, I simply didn't like the oversized can on the end of my Crown.
I received a new Altaros mod with the new muzzle brake a couple of weeks ago. I initially installed it to test accuracy, works fine. I used it again today and while the report is higher pitched than the Huggett, it is pretty darn quiet. I will give a better review when I have time though.

Back when I was comparing, just doing a casual db test 5 years ago, this is what I came up with.

Really surprised me as I expected the rather large Shogun to beat the Huggett. Didn't turn out that way to my unprofessional testing device. Of course to the human ear, perhaps not much of a noticeable difference.

Bantam Sniper w/shroud, but NO moderator, metered at 108 db.

0dB works well, and I've moved most of my guns to the Huma suppressors.
They have three different diameters to choose from, and...are tunable, by adding or removing sections of the suppressors (all diameters). And now, they have two methods of suppressing the sound, 1. wrapped, and 2. a new version that is a plastic baffle.
And yes, I do have two DonnyFl's.
I've also got a new one built by a member here that does a nice job of muffling the sound.

I'm a firm believer in the STO moderators, they're my go to moderators. I've tried the Huma MD 40, Silent Shot and STO, 3 Falixs and 1 Sarissa. I've not tried there Pugio yet. To my ear the STOs sound quieter, lower frequency. The Sarissa is the quietest of the lot but not my most used, too long for woods walking.

Thanks John... I'll have to keep the Sarissa in mind. Quieter and lower frequency sound profile appeals to me!

I alternate with a Belita and the STO Pugio on a .25 Compact Vet with a plenum extension. Both work very well. The Belita is caliber specific, whereas the Pugio will work on a .177 up to a .30.

The Pugio is a wider diameter, so I have to run an extension for it to not interfere with the longer airtube.

I'll post pics later today

Still under the radar at the moment but catching on.
I was bought a £90 hugget for my birthday it was that bad I pulled internals out and 3d printed a new core " it's now quieter.
If you can purchase one grab it you wont be disappointed.

If you are a fan of Huggett you could always try the Magna or Mini-Magna moderators - they are wider and handle more power and have more internal volume than the Snipe or Belitta. I have the Snipe with integral shroud on an Air Ranger, and I use the Mini-Magna on my Huben K1 (also with a shroud), both shooting around 30 FPE. Unfortunately I can't swap them to compare them on the same gun, but I do like both. The Huggett replaced a factory shroud / Airstream moderator on the Air Ranger and it was much quieter after the swap.

I also have a Huma Mod 40 Compact and a Donny FL Tatsu that I have tried on the Huben, and I like the Mini-Magna better than the others in terms of sound quality and length (sound level is about equal among all three both to my ear and with phone app testing). I also feel accuracy is a bit better with the Mini-Magna too, so it is the one I use on it.

I can relate to your experience. The Huggett Snipe and shroud on my Daystate .22 is the benchmark for backyard friendly quiet. I put the STO Sarissa on my .30 Evol Paradigm and it turned it into backyard friendly as well. Yes, it is rather large, but quite effective. I would switch to the stock AAA Evol moderator when going afield. The new Alteros went on the .25 Caiman X with great results, definitely backyard friendly. The backyard friendly Crown wears the DonnyFL FX. I have a 0dB on the .177 Akela and will try the DonnyFL KOI on the AA 510 carbine when it arrives later today. The Buck-Rail is perfect for the P-Rod.
I will add one little surprise find I made from Haimoto. His baffle stack and air stripper kit for the Benjamin Akela really works well to quiet the retort, all by itself. You can really hear the difference between the factory air stripper and baffles vs Haji's . . . adding the 0dB to Haji's kit is like icing on the cake. He also has the baffle stack and air stripper for the Krato, Umarex Gauntlet, Origin, Evanix Air Speed/Rainstorm, PP750, Avenger, Hatsan QE, and others.
