RTI Huma reg help

Updated since original question…
Because I started getting help before I could start I over, I’ll recreate this mostly…

I’m trying to install the Huma reg on my Prophet 1, and running into some issues. It appears I’m through the first couple issues, and now dealing with something...

The bottle gauge on the Huma shoots straight up to whatever the fill pressure is in the external fill tank when you try to fill the gun and stays there when connected. As soon as I disconnect, the bottle gauge drops to around 100bar and stays there.

While connected, for over 5 minutes, both external fill bottle reg and gun reg stay on 230/220. Neither drops at all… until I disconnect and Huma bottle reg drops to 100 bar.

Update: after removing the parts and putting them back together less tight, I think that worked… everything is getting air and staying stable. I’ll check again later today when I have more air.

Final update: I think all is good after taking apart the new parts and putting them back together and keeping the parts loose.

Cock the gun

Now the reg gauge in the back is up to pressure and is staying at 155 ish.

When filling, the pressure on the bottle gauge jumps to around 220bar (all that is in my fill tank right now) and stays there until I disconnect. The bottle gauge plummets to around 100bar when I disconnect the fill tank, and then stays there. I don’t hear any leaking, but as fast as it drops, I would think I would hear something…

The fill tank isnt showing pressure loss when the gun reservoir drops pressure after hitting 220?

Nope. I have them connected right now. Both are staying still and not moving at all. External at 230, gun at 220.

But as soon as I disconnect, the bottle gauge on the Huma reg drops to 100 bar. About 10 bar every 5 seconds until it gets to around 100bar.

I reconnect, the external bottle drops quickly as it fills the hose, but then both are very quickly back to 220/230 and staying put…

Just for craps and giggles, take off the fill nipple and see if the internal oring is okay on it.

Check how far you reg adjustment screw is in or out, check the belllevilles again. You may not hear a leak. But there is one somewhere if it's bleeding at a sustained and repeated rate. Also. Sounds like no air is getting into the fill tank at all. Something is obstructed and something is open somewhere it sounds like. I learned as I went. I installed a huma gen3 reg on a bottled Dreamline's and learned very much hands on

pulling hair out!!!!!!

Now I’m back to where I started and no air is getting back to the back of the gun to the rear gauge!

I have to put it away for today. I have been working on this for 3 hours.

In treestand hunting so I didn’t read everything. I’ll check back when I get back to camp.
Christ. Dedicated. Going for that dusk movement whitetail?

I appreciate you buddy. You don’t have to check in on me while hunting.

I took the parts back apart again. Put everything back without trying to be too tight. Now the back gauge is getting air again.

Also, the rifle bottle is warm, so I have to believe air is getting in there. And now the bottle gauge is staying at 160bar… When filling, that gauge still shows what is basically showing what the external bottle shows at 180 bar, but drops down to 160 when disconnected. Better than the 100 bar it was stuck at earlier…

What happens when I connect the external bottle while it is at 300 bar!!???

I’m putting it away for the night and will check again tomorrow.

I’ve heard of this before. I just need time to think. I sold my Priest ll and I had a Huma on it. I dressed up the washers and made sure the piston seat and disc were flawless. Once that reg settled, it was solid. But always a slow filler. I think with the foster, I didn’t crank it tight. Just finger snug.

I didn't want to say anything because mine isn't on an RTI but cranking down on the gauges and foster messed with the flow.

Get anything in the woods?

Passed up a pretty nice 10 point. Then I got tortured with squirrels just begging for a pellet or slug.
Im assuming you want him to grow? Your property or family? That's not public land behavior. Haha.
I personally can't kill them anymore. Small game and fish only.

@Vetmx - Thanks buddy. I appreciate your help. I’m guessing I was just putting things back together too tight.

Everything seems good since taking the parts off and putting them back on a little looser than before. I am guessing that something was too tight and keeping air from flowing to the right places.

It is a slow fill, as you said. My external fill tank was filled today to about 4000 psi to try some higher pressure. The Huma bottle gauge would go up to about that and stay there for a while, then I could cut off the air and the pressure would drop a bit (to what I can only assume is what is actually in the gun bottle). The good thing is that the pressure in the gun bottle is not dropping after bleeding anymore. The reg gauge looks good, and the bottle gauge seems to be working fine as well. I know people always say finger tight, so I know I definitely kept them a little looser this last time.

Hopefully, I’ll get to find some time to shoot and see how it goes with this reg versus the factory reg. The factory reg wasn’t bad but would just creep overnight by around 20 bar if I stored with the bottle pressure that high. It would shoot off after a couple shots to start. Last night, the new reg didn’t creep at all. We’ll see how it goes tonight.
