Tuning Huma vs. FX.AMP

Assuming the regulator is working properly, performance should be similar between the two. Huma claims their reg has a quicker recovery time.

It seems a lot of people have issues with reg creep regarding the AMP reg. Reg creep can be caused by either poor sealing surface between the piston and set screw, or bad orings.

IMO, the Huma reg is a better design, using a brass piston instead of soft delrin. In the AMP reg, the sealing takes place at the end of the delrin piston. If this seal isn’t perfect, or is damaged, then you will have reg creep. Replacement pistons are expensive ($22 i think) and a new piston does not guarantee to eliminate creep. The Huma reg uses a small polymer disk for sealing, which gets sandwiched between the brass piston and brass set screw. Huma usually sends 2-3 replacement disks with your purchase in case you try to decrease reg pressure without degassing first.

I was battling reg creep recently with my AMP reg. Pressure was going up as much as 12-15 bar. I put a Huma reg in my gun last week and set the pressure at 115 bars. I just checked my reg pressure again last night after letting the gun sit idle for a week and my pressure was still 115 bar. To me, the higher cost of the Huma reg was worth it, however I don’t want to claim that using a Huma reg will resolve all creep issues.

Some AMP owners don’t have a problem with their reg or just haven’t noticed. Some just burn a few shots before shooting groups to deal with creep.

Nobody said anything about the amp being adjustable without removing it from the gun. Not so much the huma. I had reg creep on my amp, but I wish I could fix it and use it, just so I could adjust reg pressure easily without disassembling the gun!

FX has 3 year warranty and if it has issue they will send you a rebuild kit like they did for me! Having quick external adjustment is why I even have FX guns. Can’t imagine having to degas and go change reg pressure then do it again....and again!

Edit: reg creep is usually caused by a simple oring, very easily fixed most of the time. This video shows how to do this or send it to 910 airgun to get it fixed.

Those times I have seen a direct comparison, where both regs are working as they should, the AMP seems to have less pressure drop from a full fill, and down to regpressure. While huma may have 4-5 bar drop, the AMP may have 2-3. In those cases the AMP should in theory be better, but it would probably not make a practical difference. Think allot of the "huma is better than FX reg" come from the older models of impact, and FX guns like wildcat mk1, and the royale, where huma reg probably is a better option. On the old style regs, the huma is much easier to adjust, making it a better option for a tuner.

Great info here and I agree 100%

A pressure regulator is a valve that controls the pressure of a fluid or gas to a desired value. ... The regulator in your air rifle is a valve that opens when it senses a pressure drop and then closes itself when the back pressure reaches the preset level. It opens when you fire a shot and then closes when the plenum space is refilled to a certain pressure setting.

So, to answer that question for yourself I advise you to use your rifle with the factory regulator installed and note its pros and cons...then replace it with a Huma-Air Regulator and use it for a period of time to see what the difference is between the two. Asking if one works better than the other is a subjective question that only you can answer for yourself... please let us all know what you discover.
