Hunter class question about butt pad

I was curious if an adjustable butt pad is allowed for use in Hunter class. I recently put one on and am now wondering if I can even use it(I know... Ready, Fire, Aim!) See picture below.

I too looked at the rules and don’t see a definition of a butthook. I always think of butthooks as being long enough and angled enough where they can rest on your shoulder and basically hold the rifle similar to clothes hanger on a closet rod. I did see some forum discussion about if the wings are not beyond 30 degrees then they are OK, but that may be just some internet lore. Looking at your picture it appears the wings are beyond 30, probably getting close to 45. Maybe one one of the AAFTA BOG members could chime in.

"I did see some forum discussion about if the wings are not beyond 30 degrees then they are OK, but that may be just some internet lore." No; and neither did you imagine it.

After copying (verbatim) the AAFTA 'butthook' rule for my TEXtreme Field Target rules, when my shooters started pressuring me for a definition I imposed the thirty-degree maximum.

You laying that protractor on there at matches Ron? lol, just kidding.

Is there a length specification in the AAFTA rule books? or just the 30 degree?

They are not referring to AAFTA FT. Not even sure why they brought that stuff up. Your butt plate is fine for AAFTA Hunter division. Have fun this weekend.

lol, I'm confused too.

When Ron mentioned copying the AAFTA butthook rule verbatim for the rules for his Extreme FT matches, I assumed there was an AAFTA rule stating the 30 degrees. I've never gone digging for it in AAFTA rule book though. I was asking if it specifies a length or just states the 30 degrees he mentions.

Clarifications-

No, AAFTA has no 30 degree rule about butt-pads. They simply haven't addressed the issue at all yet, leaving it up to individual interpretations/imaginations. They'll have to address it sooner or later; probably sooner.

I addressed the issue by leveling the 30 degree rule after being pressured into a clarification/definition by a couple of my TEXtreme Field Target shooters. One of those shooters, well-known not only in TEXtreme circles, but this forum, agreed to help enforce the rule with an app on his phone that measures angles; no protractor required! ;-)

Why I and the OP brought that stuff up is answered in posts above.

For OP, we're talking about two things here. Extreme Field Target, and "regular" AAFTA field target. Sounds like there is nothing in the AAFTA book defining a butthook for Hunter class but Ron out in Texas decided on the 30 degree angle for his Extreme matches. For you Textremers, is there a length limit to each wing?

No length. Length doesn't really matter, again, my opinion, as no angles can exceed 30 degrees from the base 0 or 180 degree depending on how you are looking at it.

A butt hook is a separate add on to the butt plate and has nothing to do with the angles of the adjustable shoulder contour wings on a buttplate. That’s why AAFTA doesn’t bother to define it any further.

Butt hooks were actually created for smallbore prone shooters using slings. Why someone decided they are helpful for FT is beyond my understanding as they do not add any stability for me. They do look cool, though.
