Hunter class Scope magification power

16X max in Hunter (y)

Generally to get the Best of clarity/brightness & Ranging, having the 16x setting being inside the @ center third of a scope power range.
The Scope Itself and how "By Design" the shallowness of the depth of field plays the larger part in how well any scope does in the FT game set at 16x

Personally having owned and tried LOTS !!! of optics for the HFT class, in all my years of this holy grail search only found two that made the cut.
The now obsolete Optisan / MTC Vipers and the current ATHLON HERAS series ( I now have the 6-24x56 SFP and Love it !! )

Mine is FFP. Will that make a difference in FT? I've only used it for Extreme FT.
The same scope in FFP when at 16X the reticle size is not acceptable IMO .... where as SFP the reticle while a tad fine is so much better suited with a plus that the SFP reticle is subtensioned at 16X for true mil-rad scaling.
For the game of HFT where 16x is the max you can use and seldom if ever not on 16x ... most will / have found it preferable.

Maybe I'll get an early bday present in SFP.

Why don't I hear or read about HFT scopes being used for hunting ?
For hunting, I’d want a scope with a large depth of field. For AAFTA field target (including Hunter Division) we want a scope with a shallow depth of field.

It is rare that a manufacturer purposely tries to make rifle scopes with shallow depth of field.

I'm looking forward to seeing how people like the new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15×50 for HFT?!

The reticle thickness is. 06 mil so a tad thicker than most FFP mil reticles. All .2 hashes too.

And the quality is higher at its price level, more than any scope I've come across yet at that level. IQ is also good too.

It's like having a Cronus level scope but at a Ares price.
