Hunter Field target question

Hello All:

I want to begin a new journey in take up Hunter Field Target.

My question is do I need a tank to refill my rifle or should I get a compressor for the Match. I will be using a .177 Marauder. And do some clubs have compressors?

Check with the club you will be shooting with. I always take my tank. I have a commercial compressor I take and fill tanks for club members.

Clubs will differ ... The SVFTC brings out a single SCUBA tank filled to 3300psi, tho no compressor.

It has been a SPOIL for the PCP shooters in NOT having to provide there own air support .. you own & shoot a PCP you need to feed it HPA

The SCUBA tank is there for everyone to top off after practice, or if needing to top off mid match. Just start your morning with a topped off gun and the provided single tank has never been an issue shared among all needing some air. Many in attendance also carry HPA bottles, self included.

Now as too personal tank size ... wide open there as you can get small for easy in field carry having a few fills .. or big/er giving more fills.
Either way the "Tank" itself needs a way to be filled. Thus the quandary of PCP ownership.

Usually with a .177, If it is a standard tank and it is full, you should be able to practice and shoot the match with the tank on the gun. If it is a tube style (like a huntsman) you may need one refill.

Welcome to the game!
It's good to know how many good shots you get from a particular gun with a certain PSI fill. You'll need a chronograph and some time to figure that out. Having your own fill set up while competing is a plus-I've had issues with unfamiliar fill whips and valves in the past. Using your own fill set up during competition helps the comfort factor IMO.

Depending on the tune of your marauder, you may need a full mid match. Mine can go 50-60 shots. So typically I fill after about 30 - 40 shots just to be sure.
