Hunter Field Target Question

Start shooting with other FT shooters at the club event level. learn to get your elbows on your knees, sitting centered over your hips and without even firing a shot ... SIGHT STABILITY and a relaxed natural point of aim. Adjustment in seating height is paramount to get elbows locked in ... longer the arms taller the seat and visa versa. PRACTICE how you will shoot the actual events, NOT on a BENCH but seated using sticks Learn to hold and position your gun the SAME every single target ... follow threw not breathing twitching releasing trigger until target is hit !

PRACTICE ........................

Yea been at it more than a few years ...

Don't rush to buy equipment, you can start with what you have and upgrade your equipment once your realize it is keeping you from progressing. In hunter you can do well with marauder and UTG scope. Philip won this year's nationals with this combination.

Observe good shooters, see what they do and copy them, or at least copy things from them that make sense to you.

Practice shooting off hand shots.

I've been shooting field target for 2 years and still learning, Vasyl.

Go to a match and shoot. Leave your gun at home the first time, see if you can get squadded up with someone who already has a well set up rifle you can shoot. You will have a much better experience and may actually hit a few targets. Once you have shot a well set up rifle and have used a range card you will have a better idea how to set yours up.

Someone wanting to get into ft (HFT), get to a match period. Run what you brung, make contact ahead of time and likely if needed someone has a loaner. You'll learn more in 1 day than a year of reading and get hands on exp. with more than one airgun (most being very happy to have you give hwat they shoot a try. You might also come home with a great deal on an excellent rig.

" I live in NE WA state 100 miles north of Spokane. Are there any FT clubs in this area? "

Used to be blessed enough to shoot 3 FT matchs a month (in the Hollows of TN) but now live in no airgun land North of Spokane - Chewelah. No longer even own a field target, the misses own the nicest airgun in the house, but, we do have 20 acres right on HWY395 that would be great for a shoot and I(we) would love to meet some air gunners. The 212 mile marker is in the front yard and your welcome anytime! I generally have air around if that helps.

The main reason I would like to attend a match is to see how a FT course is setup. How the rounds are scored how the targets are made and setup I live on 20 acres myself and would like to setup a course that is as close to an offical FT event as possible. This would be for when the kids and grand kids come over. They all love to shoot especially my pcp's. I have 4 pcp rifles myself with a tank and booster compressor.

Well, we will just have to get together! I never upgraded photobucket but maybe still pictures, lots of albums:

I'm so old I still have Brad's page marked:

http://www.airguns.net/ft.php and do click on the "make your own field target"

the gamo type target can be just fine and rino targets last life times http://fieldtargets.com/ on the rino targets the "poppers" are very nice.

Actually have health issues that prevent FT shooting (at least not 60 shots seated) but would certainly be happy to help your family have fun anyway I can.
