7-8 yards. he was flying in front of my backstop. 2240 shoots cp 380-400fps over 60 shots at 80f. I can turn it down for 100 shots at 300 FPS. Homemade hammer spring adjuster, moderator/shroud, lightened hammer spring, lightened trigger spring.
I figure shooting them is more humane than boric acid in the holes they drill in the shed. And it’s a challenge they will hover for just 2-3 seconds then they’re off again.
I spent countless hours as a kid shooting them with a red ryder. Though I’d like to think it taught me something it was more persistence and luck than anything. Watching the bbs spiral like a knuckle ball. Like shooting a blimp with a cannonball, it would knock them down but they usually needed to be finished off with a heel grind.
I usually 'shoot' bees/bugs/spiders with carb-cleaner and a lighter, but I suppose air rifles/pistols work too!
Seriously though.. I found a fun / funny way to take out creepy-crawlies with my PCP rifles.. I just single-load them with a cleaning-cotton-pellets, and let em' have it.
Shooting cleaning-pellets can be a lot of fun, but WARNING - They can still be destructive and cause damage / harm too.. So just be a bit careful still. [Been there and I had to learn the hard way]
I keep an airsoft pistol with me at work when they are about. They will hover long enough at thier holes to get a good aimed shot off at 20ft. Otherwise they dive bomb you when taking thier homes off a house.
Can you imagine what that would be like to us? Sort of like a Beach ball size cannon ball right into the gut, lol, like the cartoons. It’s the wasps I dislike. Those suckers have sentry guards on the look out at all times, ready to call the troops if need be.
