Hi Corny,
I was running shot strings on another forum with my Akela - unregulated.177.
100+ shot strings at 40 yards shooting JSB 10.35g. The spread across 130 shots was 68fps. The sweet spot of the bell curve was 26fps.
You will note that it was not until shot 135 that I saw noticable PoI drop at 40 yards (laser measured). See my pictures for the shots.
50 yards is a far shot with a .22 air rifle. I have an unregulated Huntsman .22 that I am shooting the “30 Yard Challenge “ on this GTA forum. I’ve shot a 198 with it and never shot below 192. The target bull is like the head of a pin. I fill to 250bar and start shooting - it typically takes 30+ shots to shoot the card counting sighters. I don’t experience PoI drop. I’ll attach a Huntsman shot string as well.
So I’ve tested this extensively with .22 and .177 caliber with 9 different PCPs with velocities ranging from 700fps ranges to 1000fps ranges. I’m attaching 30 yard challenge targets shot with 2 unregulated .22 rifles - Benjamin Cayden and Daystate Huntsman.
In my testing, you will NOT experience significant PoI changes at 25 - 40 yard typical (squirrel hunting) pellet gun distances with a 25fps velocity spread!
These guys seeking to tune their guns to achieve a 3fps velocity spread are probably not spending their time as wisely as they could be - for example shooting technique and practice.
Just my opinion, but I’ve done a boatload of testing via target shooting.
