HW/Weihrauch HW 44?

Kind of new to Airguns. I recently purchased a co2 Beretta pistol, which I am in the process of returning.
My only other gun is an HW100.
Im looking at pistols but not quite ready to spend the $$$ on an HW44. That was until I shot a pistol that had none of the precision that I became accustomed to.
I only shoOr targets and plinking but the HW100 is a 22cal.
What is the best cal. For a pistol?
and why?
I love the 22 but being a newbie I don’t know if .177 is more appropriate for pistols.

I don't know about that question, but the question is why .177 over .22?
for me it always .22 unless I can get a .20
for others , it can be a .177 , it is up to the user to decide

I have the HW44 in 177 and must say, I've never shot a pistol as consistently accurate as this one. It went back to AoA once back when I first had it for trigger work and I haven't touched it (except for shooting) since. Here's a couple pics

The target is from last winter, shot in my basement. I only use H&N Baracuda 9.57 grain select. I shoot from a desktop tripod for support. It will shoot like this every time. So if you are after consistently accurate shots, this would be my recommendation.

That’s some insane accuracy I’ve always loved these hw44s . They’re aren’t that pricey if you’ve been in the hobby for a while

Just returned from a vacation where I had the opportunity to shoot my HW100 from the porch.
60yards never missed the mark.
It sold me on the HW brand

I use a Bugbuster because it focuses down to 3 meters. The reticle is pretty thick so it’s not for everybody.

Here’s another example of consistency. I shot these 5 shot groups over 2 days. Noone can claim I cherry picked my targets!

I've got both caliber pistols... .177 and .22 .
I don't have a preference in which I shoot, except that for single shot guns, the "slightly"...larger .22 is a little easier to load.

Magazine fed guns...50% - 50%, no particular favorite caliber.

I noticed that with the gun I’m returning. Tweezers made it easier to load the magazine.

I have the .177 HW44 and highly recommend it. With a red dot I can consistently hit cans at 55 yards with ease. Swap the red dot out for a scope and dime sized groups at 55 yards are possible. I really like the picatinny rail on top, I could get used to that.

I agree the .177 is a bit more difficult to load but I’m not sure if it’s a better choice considering other factors. Such as shots per fill or other issues.

I like 800+ fps for best accuracy, 840+ is even better to me. Sometimes this is difficult to achieve in shorter barrel lengths (pistol or ultra-compact rifle) with larger caliber or heavier pellets. You've got to check the specs on a particular short-barrelled gun.

So sometimes I choose a .177 over a .22 if the gun will achieve a muzzle velocity more to my personal preference. If you are just punching paper targets or plinking, and the winds where you shoot are not too strong all the time, no issues with using .177 over .22 if it gets you the speed you want/need for good and consistent accuracy.

Been shooting FAC level Weihrauchs (HW100 .22, HW100 .177, HW30 .177, HW50 .22) for many years.

I have a HW44 in .22 and am very impressed with it. I prefer the .22 caliber because in addition to target and plinking duties I use the HW44 for pesting. The .22 transfers energy better than the .177 which tends to "shoot through" without anchoring the pest.

The HW44 is not cheap, but it's well designed, well made and very accurate. IMHO it's worth investing in.

Keep in mind that this can be hand pumped easily. 20 pumps will bring it to 200 bar. 177 is easily loaded into the magazine (for my arthritic fingers). 177 shoots at slightly faster speeds which translates to flatter trajectory. If target shooting, you won't see much difference in hole size with paper targets. I shoot squirrels with 177 (head shots) which works quite well. Body shots, not so much. But 99% of my shooting is paper at close distances. With a bit smaller holes, it's easier to keep the hole within the X ring. With 22, you might get more partial hits. 177 is the required caliber for Olympic and similar shooting, so there is that. There are more choices for select target ammo in 177 because of this.
