HW/Weihrauch HW 50 ARH plinkers tune

Morning All Im still gaining some muscle so have been shooting my HW 30s and my 50s a lot. I have a 50 in .22 with a Vortex kit in a ARH Walnut stock and its a great little shooter, but after a long shooting session it started to get a little hard to cock. So When my new 125th anniversary 50 in .177 in the red Lamanite stock should up I shot about 100 pellets through it and decided to drop in a ARH Plinkers kit in it. Its supposed to have modest power and easer to cock. Did the usual clean debur and dropped it in. Shot it a couple times to make sure every thing worked, then cocked it let it set for an hour then took out and shot it. WOW mush easier to cock but the chrono numbers were crazy. Before tune it was shooting the HN Baracuda 8, 8.44gr. 4.51 head size at 675 fps Avr. First 10 shots Avr. 701.5 with high of 706 and low of 698 for a 8.3 spread 2.5 std.dev. and it did this for the next 100 or shots, kept waiting for a change but didnt happen. the gun is shooting great groups with these HN havent even tried other pellets yet, Ill do that today. Very happy so far.

So it's shooting faster with the plinkers kit? I have been thinking about setting up another HW50 with that kit but I thought it was supposed to be closer to 8fpe.

Same as what Pep3 said. I thought the Plinkers kit would put an HW50 near HW30 power outputs and since I own an HW30, I'd never bothered to try a Plinkers kit. Very interesting to hear your results.

I have an ARH full power HW50 kit and I get about 11.5 FPE. No complaints but the HW50 has always been the hardest gun to cock that I own due to how it leverages its cocking link. Even my Diana 34 and TX200 are easier to cock than the HW50 but I do like the HW50's small form factor.

I too was expecting a drop in power. I thought Id get around high 500 or low 600fps but its still shooting in the 700 this morning. The RWS 7gr. are going 805fps, AA Falcons are 780fps average with a extrem spread of just 5.3fps. Tried 4 or 5 more pellets but it likes the HN Barracuda 8. The gun has absolutely no twang and has a much improved shot cycle. I use nothing but ARH lubes on most of my tunes and have for years, works great. Not sure how mush cocking force it lost but its very notisable and it dosnt have that stacking of the last few inches of the stroke that all the 50s have. The stock piston seal was fine and had no nicks so i used it. The gun is way more fun to shoot and is a real tack driver at my 20 yard range.

Interesting results 🤷‍♂️. I'm a big fan of the ARH plinkers kit, and have had one in my .177 hw50s for a couple of years. From the factory, it shot JSB 8.4s at about 11.5fpe. Dropped in the ARH plinkers kit, a Vortek piston seal and the usual moly lube and the gun delivered 9fpe with the JSB 8.4s. After many thousands of shots, the power has not changed. Much easier cocking effort as you noted, and the shot cycle is a lot more docile. At this power level, my hw50s is more accurate and more enjoyable for extended shooting sessions. Still plenty of power for small game hunting inside of 25 yards. How yours ended up delivering more power is a mystery, but I'm glad you like the outcome.
