HW 85 Cal. 6.35 How common is it?

Hi All,
I'll go straight to the point: I have a HW 85 springer (Weihrauch 85) Cal. 6.35 mm (.25). I tried to get another one for my nephew, but I was unable to find one anywhere. After failing to find one online, I went to several shops and... same thing. Cal. 177 and .22 readily available, but no .25. Some of them told me that they never seen one and it may be rare.

How rare is it that it is so hard to get one?

Can't help with the HW85 in .25 but here is one alternative I could find.

Does you breech signify .25 cal showing it was produced by Weihrauch or could it be custom/re-barrel?

Also I believe the Beeman R10 is nearly a 1:1 alternative to the HW85, iirc.

It's an all original made in Germany by Weihrauch. I love the rifle, it served me well, my nephew shares the same passion for it and wants one. The 80 is quite similar and also has a good reputation. Have you a link of it?

I'd imagine most people just don't carry the .25 because the powerplant really doesn't justify it in that caliber. The HW80 or even an HW90 both would be more appropriate choices for that caliber. In the 85 you're basically maxing out at 17fpe (factory in 15fpe I believe) which is very similar to the more popular HW95. In all honestly I assumed Weihrauch dropped the 85 all together due to the 95 being more popular.

I can see why you like the gun though. I too am a huge fan of big and slow. Its a blast watching big pellets mortar their way down field. I actually made a post not to long ago wishing they made a 50S in 25 cal for that exact reason. It'd be a little rat thumper.

AoA has a product page but is out of stock, the link is in my post above highlighted in red

The hw95 is apparently very similar as well, having a longer barrel. They are available for pre-order now.

Wish I could help more. Maybe give AoA a call, they are probably more helpful than I!

The current 85 is a long barrel 95. Both guns are great in 22. IMO better than 25. As much as you like yours in 25. You'd be doing him a favor getting him one in 22. The gun will be zippier and pellets are more readily available.

The HW80 and 90 are much bigger and heavier than the 85. Making it feel entirely different from yours. Go with a 22 HW85 or 95. You'll be very impressed. BTW the gun will make the same or more energy in 22 than 25.

I thought the 95 was a longer barrel of the 85, apologies as you are correct. Maye the old 85 sported a shorter barrel than the current 500mm. The HW95 is definitely a good alternative option for OP, be it .22 or .25.

For what its worth the 80SLk is basically the same length as a 95 and only about 3/4 of a pound heavier. If he's dead set on a .25 the powerplant and slightly heavier gun may be a benefit to him. The cocking effort may be a deal breaker for him but I can't imagine its that bad.

If 22 is acceptable (and I agree its a better choice) 95 all day

You can always buy a HW80 barrel and add it to any HW85/HW95/HW80.

However, the power plant is inadequate for .25 caliber, unless you plan to become an expert on the ammo's (huge) gravity drop  .

- I've always shot with .177 or .20 caliber pellets in Springers (I don't hunt).

Interesting.... Can a 95 barrel fit a 50S by chance? Swap over the cocking arm and call it a day? I REALLY want a .25 50S lol

When I shot BB guns that's what separated the boys from the toddlers!;)
Plinking off hand with a .25 springer is a lot of fun in my book. Sitting there on your butt shooting at a known distance what's the difference?
.177 and .22 can't deliver the energy to a can like a .25 does. If you are pesting at or under 25y it's a destroyer.
When you sit down to hunt squirrels use your scope to range find some objects in the perimeter right off. Now you have a good idea about the range of game that appears.

Jonh Knibbs has a HW 80 barrel in .25 length was 410mm
Blue Book does not list a 85 in .25 but as we have seen with Diana special group orders having been done in the past and the .25 HW 85 could have been in a special buy
cost of buying and converting a .177 or .22 it could be done for an extra 200.00 of so

Hello again everyone,
Thanks for all responses. I own various airguns in. 177 and. 22, but I prefer the .25. While the ammo is way more expensive and hard to find, one can used some custom made pellets/slugs that are just not available in smaller calibers. One thing about the power it can develop: it can propel a 30.86gr pellet up to 853.018 fps while offering a good punch even with the 38gr ones. And it is even better when dieseling (I don't diesel my pellet, but I had to try). As you can imagine, the powerplant is not exactly stock. And that brings us to another point where I'd like to hear your opinion. I've noticed the airgun is quite noisy. I mounted a silencer and it kinda helps to reduce the noise, but the action is still quite loud. Is there anything I can do to make it really quiet?

Im going to assume I'm reading this wrong. You aren't pushing a 31gr pellet to 850fps in any break barrel without dieseling and definitely not in an 85. Are you referring to PCP here?

You are not reading it wrong and I'm definitely not a liar. The mod costed me quiet a lot and I have data to back it up (Speed and penetration test (soft and hard targets). I also had to register it and got a gun license to legally own it since it exceeded the specs that are legally allowed in the country the rifle is currently in (My family has several properties abroad). Just consider this: If I try to cross the neighboring country's borders without doing the same extra-paperwork needed for firearms, I risk an arrest and the seizure of the weapon. Again:I can back all that up anytime.

Modern springers can do that (Especially the Magnum .25 ones). Concerning dieseling: I did that once out of curiosity and it almost costed me my right eardrum. So I won't do that again. Never again.
