The 97s are my favorite I think. Many years ago the TX200s caught my attention but as I started sorting out favorite brands and production I came to love the Weihrauch barrels and appreciate the hw97 a lot. I’d be curious to see the KTs bedding or learn more of how you worked the stock and decided on foam. I’m going through some thinking on a synthetic stock myself. Trying hard to not give into just making a wood stock as a project and fulfill my desire of working over the synthetic.

Many including myself are not too high on the synthetic stock other than its ability to resist wear/damage beyond wood. Likely the biggest complaint is the noise/resonance of the spring noise through the stock directly into your ear. Some have used to spray insulation and trimmed off the excess but I went a few steps beyond that. I did no bedding or anything else to the stock other than fill the 2 cavities under the recoil pad with gun cabinet foam sheets. I tightly packed it into the cavities then because I felt my rifle was still a bit front heavy and wanted maximum sound deadening I packed the final 2 inches+- with duct seal then replaced the recoil pad. Made a big difference in feel, noise and balance. Overall I much prefer the wood but it is quite a bit more expensive and will not be as durable as the synthetic.

I’m actually surprised he doesn’t have a blue laminate hw97 myself. However clearly he knows quality. Laminates have their issues as well, in theory. I’ve heard it go both ways though.

Mom not a fan of synthetic stocks at all I’d rather have cheap wood especially for springers. I have an idea I want to try but for no other reason besides giving me something to try. I’m considering running metal down the sides of the fore end to prevent flexibility then using a little lead (for lack of better ideas) in some of the open areas on the bottom of the stock and in pistol grip with some foam. Then bedding the tube with devcon 10110 for a glass bedding. Test that out and when I’m not satisfied which I know I won’t be, then sand down the glass bedding just enough to install a soft bedding. I am aware that it would be overkill which is why I’m hesitant but it has me intrigued none the less.

That is a wonderful beautiful collection. I have the same 97KT and shot it today for the first time in a couple of months. Loaded a 10.34 JSB and first shot at 40 yards hit 1/4 inch form dead center. Brought a smile to my face immediately. Surprised you added weight because it is so heavy stock. Thanks for the post and have some fun with those great air rifles.
