HW/Weihrauch HW30 .22 plinking @ 50 Yards

I had the .22 HW30 in my truck out at my parents place today and decided to plink a bit. Once I figured out where to hold with the 4x Bugbuster I was hitting lots of twigs at 50 yards.
I decided to put up a target and see how the rainbow trajectory pellets were actually grouping.They were JSB 14.35 Exacts.Not as well as the R7.177 does at 50 but not bad either at about 1.5"

a small raindrop could throw it off a foot at that distance.Surprisigly it was pretty easy to hit with at 50.I took the shot,put the gun down and by the time i looked through the spotting scope I could see the pellet just hit the target!

I have shot beer cans with my 177 Hw30 out to 100 yards. Once dialed in I can hit them repeatedly. The other day my Grey Hw30 hit a pill bottle more often than not. It's hung in brush pile at around 74 yards. I forgot what it is exactly. It's within a yard of that. It's a blast shooting stuff you have no business hitting.

when you say dial in, do you mean zero it at 100, or figure out the holdover? I was shooting 100 yards today but was shooting with a significant holdover with a 25 yard zero! 😂😂😂. But I was nervous about dialling my scope that far. Pretty new to scope adjusting so any comments would be appreciated.

I'm sorry for the confusing terminology. I mean dialing myself in. I leave the scope zeroed at 25 or 30 yards. Then I use the Airmax reticle. At 6X I usually have to bracket the can between the second and third rung on the hollow bottom post. I absolutly love these AMX reticles for targer and long range stuff. For woods hunting not so good.

With the reticle calibrated for 10x I think 6x puts my hold over around between 10 and 11.7 MOA.

Dialing springer scopes for that much elevation on top of the elevation needed to zero at 30 yards becomes precarious with 1" scopes and guns with possible droop. I fix the droop in my guns so I might have enough room to dial a 100 yard zero but some of the 1" Airmax turrets aren't tactile or audible enough to count that many clicks. Plus there's no point to zeroing that far temporarily because it makes the gun useless if I need to shoot something close.

I will dial a few clicks of windage for a very light breeze. But its few enough to count and not enough to make the windage far off at close range if needed. I only shoot 100 yards with springers with no real appreciable wind.
