HW30 Traditional vs Jetsons

The new forearm cutouts are a bit odd, the rest is ok.. Having the choice, the older model is nicer.

My wife's 30 has the Jetson's stock. I like it for the side cut outs. They make an excellent hold position reference. Sort of like what people like about the old finger groove stocks. I like it enough I bought BOG's take off for my Hw30.

Ordered a HW30 from Krale this past Wednesday morning and I was holding it Friday afternoon. ?? Of course it came with the new Jetsons laser stock.

Astro Airguns? A division of Spacely sprockets. Good to see Elroy enjoys airguns. And springers have endured into the future.

Looks beautiful BoG. We were lucky to get the older stock on Kim’s Deluxe. Very similar to your original look but also says, “Weihrauch” in the fore stock checkering. Not showing her what you did with yours though. I have enough projects ha ha ha.

The oxidation process consists of the combination of white vinegar and steel wool. The steel wool cooks in the vinegar for a couple weeks. It takes a lot of time and experimentation to do. It can go south in a hurry. When oxidized, the wood looks like it is 100 years old. Then I sand back through the weathered gray wood. I used several stains. Some left over from my furniture business that I can’t even get anymore. Then 3 coats of clear satin lacquer but not in the checkering. I hate doing Beech because it’s always a gamble whether it is going to come out ok.

The steel wool in vinegar sounds like the Iron nitrate ("aquafortis") approach. IHave you ever tried that on beech?

This HW30 is Beech. I prefer the Bisley butt pad with the curve.

The salesman at AoA sugested the HW30 Deluxe. It had the old style stock and was in .20 cal.
My 97K has that stock cut. I was wondering what their thinking is, aside from the shoulder mount angle. The stock works well on the bench with the rear bag, but I don't know that it's any better than the normal cut.

I can't figure out what the hell is going through the minds of the executives at either HW or Diana. They have just dug their heels in when it comes to producing rifles with ugly stocks for no fathomable reason. Making a good looking stock isn't rocket surgery and there's no downside to it. Companies have been doing it for decades now and virtually nothing is copyrighted or patented. The rifle just looks better with a good looking stock.

Imagine if GM had persisted in marketing "Aztek styling" after decades of negative feedback.
