HW/Weihrauch HW30 v HW50

Lmao this is the correct answer. Realistically it seems everyone ends up with both (and then some) so there's really no reason to worry about which one is best now.
I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably own most everything Weihrauch produces sooner or later. Just great guns. It's kind of funny, I used to think my 50 and 98 required a rather healthy amount of cocking effort, then I bought a Diana 350.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the HW30S, but feel the HW50S is the better all-around gun for me:).
I generally want more power than the HW30S offers; best for Women/Kids.
Call me a kid then. I do agree the 50 is a better all around gun if you can only do one. It'd be the one I choose if I could only have one. That said my 30s are so much more fun and get used a lot more. Probably because it makes me feel like a kid again. Different strokes for different folks.

The HW30 was my first good gun. Then I bought the HW95. These two fill all of my air gun needs.

I still want a 50, but the 30 gets almost all my time.
I got my 177 95 first. My 30 second and third. I bought my 177 50 fourth to see what all the hype was about. It was definitely worth buying as a woods gun. If you don't hunt or shoot offhand a lot a 30 and 95 will fill most "normal" airgun needs. The 50 will do everything ok but not as fun as the 30 and doesn't make near the power of a 95 for the same cocking effort.
Again the 50 IMO is the best overall and woods carry gun. But it's only a nice to have if you're bench bound and you can have more than one rifle. I'd stand by my first two picks if I had to dump everything but two.

I've been down this road and couldn't decide because I wanted both. The 35E kind of splits the road between the two?
The 35E is awesome but I think its kind of in a league of its own. I feel like its more of a trophy than anything else these days. If you like the idea of lower power but something more traditional and classy than a 50S, 35E all day. There really isn't anything else on the market nowadays with the elegance factor it has.

Not really, from a purely pragmatic view. The closest overlap might be the 35 makes the same power of a 50 and is almost as easy to cock as a 30.

In reality the 35 has a completely different feel than a 30 or 50 because it is longer and two pounds heavier than a 50. The 35 is a gun that you have to want on its own merits.

You mean I have to buy all three. Cool. 😂

Yes, the HW35, HW35E is a completely different gun ... designed in the 1950's, when Weihrauch only made one gun to do everything.

The HW30, HW50 are later incarnations mostly popularized in the 1980's, where a lighter, streamlined gun with the Rekord trigger was gaining traction.

The HW35, HW35E is hands down a better built gun in every way, but heavier due to the 30mm piston/receiver/metal threaded end-cap and more difficult to shoot due to its recoil. The HW80 and HW35 will always be harder to shoot due to recoil and take more time to master.

For plinking or shorter range target shooting, the HW30 is the most fun to shoot, easiest to cock, easiest to shoot as it has the lowest recoil of any Weihrauch Sping gun offering. The HW50 is next, but is more difficult to cock due to it's 2 piece cocking arm.

My Favorite (HW35E) should be bought by folks wanting a Masterpiece in beauty/engineering knowing it will not make more than 35/50 fps more than a HW50. It will be harder to cock vs. the HW30 (not much) and will be harder to shoot than a HW30, HW50, HW95.

The HW85 (orig.) and Beeman R9 represented a transition, where Weihrauch was trying to keep build quality almost the same as the R1/HW80/HW35, but lighter ... to appeal to more shooters. The gun was more difficult to make (damaged receivers) and phased out to become the HW95/R9.

I feel most owners will enjoy shooting the HW30/HW50 more due to above consideration .............. but I really love the elegance of the HW35E;).

Well, my 30 came in yesterday. Never saw anything like it. Small, compact, light, handy, well balanced, but not super light, just relatively light and hangs well from the offhand position. Small, compact rifles I have owned before were much lighter, less well balanced, and nowhere near the craftsmanship of this rifle.

Bad news, it was not easy to cock or close as I had heard and the Rekord trigger is not like my other Rekords, it has a good amount of creep. Good news, after shooting it a good deal the barrel is now easy to cock and close, and the creep is consistent, smooth and light and I find I actually like it this way.

Just shooting from my indoor/outdoor range for rainy days which is 8 to 10 yards long, depending on how my wife has the porch furniture arranged, 9 yards today.

Using a Williams FP 5D-AG peep and post front blade, with 74 year old eyes on a cloudy, grey rainy day my groups so far have been:
1. H&N Sport .361
2. R10 Match .425
3. Meisterkgeln 5 stacked in One hole
4. JSB Match Middle Weight .260
5. JSB Match S100 .125
6. HM Barracuda M .045
7. CPHP .400
8. CP Dome Ultra Mag .507

With a few exceptions, not so great for only 9 yards but I think a scope would help. But I have no intention of scoping it because I use my 97 for benchrest duty and do most of my shooting from the 4 traditional field positions.

This afternoon I will test the H&N Sampler pack. As of this moment, I am not sure I will shoot my other HW's much after this. I am amazed at how much fun this rifle is.

The 30 weight wise isn't the lightest rifle in it's size range but then again it's all steel and wood. Most any springer in its size and power range that's lighter will have plastic parts.

Also powder burners require less metal and are often lighter than comparable sized springers. My full size Tikka 7mm 08 is lighter than my 30 but it's plastic and doesn't have a big steel spring, compression tube and piston either.

Those groups aren't bad either! Keep in mind that's a fresh spring and seals and you're likely dealing with at least a little dieseling from excess lube. And let's not forget the gun is new to you so you're still getting used to it.

One thing that I failed to realize when I first got my 30S was that it really didn't like meing placed on that bag. I usually glide it in so the barrel doesn't bump down at all. That ball detent can be a little sensitive.

Anyway, congrats in the new toy!

Yes, you're not going to find a lighter "well made" Springer out there (y) - > Jeez how light does it need to be ......... to be superlight:unsure:?

"Superlight" is either made cheaply ..... maybe would last 5 years if kept in the closet - or $3K and made of Titanium/CF.

My gosh, I read this post last night and decided WTF, this post makes sense. Worse thing that can happen is, I'll sell the one I don't want, ......maybe. I ordered both today. Got the HW50 in SS and the HW30 Deluxe, both 22. Shipping in 2 days.
