HW/Weihrauch HW30 walnut

Really? Looks like cardboard to me. All the good ones are what is known as "bait and switch" selling. They did the same thing with the 95N.
I don't know about that, My 30N is rather exceptional, the 95N somewhat plain, but better than beech. My two 35E are good but not exceptional

Can you please give a quick description of how you applied walnut oil to your stock. Can you let me know which exact oil you used? My HW30N arrived yesterday. It looks nice (not as nice as yours or a couple others I saw but still nice). It feels how you described yours. Very smooth but like it could use a bit of oil. It looks to me like a bit of oil would really bring out the “figure“ in the wood. I’m very happy with it. I was holding out hope for a “lottery” winner stock but being realistic, this is a nice walnut stock for an HW30. I’ll post some photos soon.

This is the one I have been using, my first time with walnut oil

I just apply a coat with a cotton patch or a small piece of paper towel. The wood is so dry and thirsty it really soaks it in. No obvious change now, I put an application on every 3 or 4 days and it seems to be soaking in slower in spots so am hoping it will soon seal those porous spots better, where grain is darker and more figured. It is not supposed to be yellowing like linseed or tung oil. I expect this to be a long process.

While the stock is wet with the oil the grain really pops Walnut oil is supposed to leave a more satin finish than the other oils.

Thank you. Now I have to work up the confidence to give it a try. :)

I have read anywhere from a day to three days to dry. I suspect it will depend upon how much you apply at one time and the ambient temperature. Really need to google it to find total cure times.
I should have framed my question more clearly. What I wanted to ask was if your expectation of it taking a couple months total time was due to the time to let each layer of oil dry properly before adding the next layer? Thanks.

I thinkI have read anywhere from 3 weeks to a couple of months to really cure. I have been apply some coats about every two to three days now and it does not seem to be soaking in as fast. When I got the gun the stock looked rather gray, now it's been developing some more amber tones. Today I took some beeswax pellets and while the stock was still somewhat wet started rubbing it with a few of the pellets in the palm of my hand and worked the wax into the surface.

This is my first rodeo with walnut oil and all I can say is that it will be a deep finish as it has been penetrating the wood very well, There are some areas on this stock which are very porous so I think this might be a good thing.

I hope they offer them as stand alone stocks because I’d love to upgrade my HW30s & hopefully at some point my HW50s!!!

Could you show us some pictures please. My stock is as said in previous post very gray and almost looks like cardboard.

I would have to get rid of my grey laminate hw30 to justify getting the walnut version… so are people calling AoA and asking for “select walnut”? And is that fair to the next buyer lol. Seems like first come, better served 😂.
Nothing wrong with asking, and no way to really know if they open and look at them for you.
