Good for you Windmill01. I also have a 50 and installed a Vortek drop in kit. Mine had bad gaulling issues. Don’t think I’m a fan of these 2 piece cocking leavers. I took the gun apart, watched a few YouTube‘s and managed to fix it. Getting the pivot bolt and two thin washer shims back in was a nightmare. I had to take the gun apart and put it back together about six times before I got the problem solved. The caulking lever still grind a little bit but I just stick my earplugs in my ears deeper so I don’t hear it. It doesn’t seem to affect the guns accuracy. Another issue will come across is that on my HW 30 and 50 they both have pretty severe barrel droop. I purchased a couple of sets of Hawke scope ring inserts that lower the front of the scopes to be more in line with the barrel.
Is your HW 50 an accurate rifle? What pellets does the bear like?

Thankyou. My Hw50S is in my humble opinion more accurate than the lemon Hw30. This may upset some of the 30 fans but my experiences with both rifles even when the 30 was performing as spec was that my and I repeat my 50 is more accurate.
Now this accuracy claim has come about with experimenting with several pellets. My Hw50S loves the 12.65gr Baracuda Greens. I won’t shoot anything else in this rifle. Actually I use the same pellets in my Hw77, Lgv Challenger and my well you know it the Hw50S. All are 22 cal.
Any how I’ve raved on enough.
Gary

Hey Gary, Is your HW50 as accurate as the HW77? I have a HW97K basically the same gun as the 77. Was shooting it tonight along with the HW50. The 97 has a Vortek 12ftlb kit installed and is unbelievablely accurate. I also put a full power Vortek spring in the HW50 . The twang was replaced by a solid thunk, so much fun to shoot. It is not quite as accurate but it also doesn’t have the heavy rock solid weight of the 97 or the 77. I don’t think I found the perfect pellet for it yet. I might just try what you are using , the barracuda greens only in .177.
I think it was a very smart move for you to opt out of another 30 and get the 50. It’s a bit more versatile and you can shoot out accurately quite a bit further. It’s not that much heavier or much more difficult to cock. As you are your shooting in .22, you have 4 or 5 more ft / lbs of energy.

G’day fullpower that’s a good question. On some days the 50 will put 10 pellets in a one cent piece (Australian) at 25 metres and on other days the 77 will out shoot it. If the scopes I have on both rifles, Hawk Airmax are aligned with the gods then id say the 50 is a smidge better at 25 metres but further out my 77 has more grunt and using the Barracuda Greens I have less holdover to consider.
Here is a video, not a very good one of the 77 shooting ping pong balls filled with powder at 61 metres metres

Wow Gary,Great video! Thanks for sharing. That is some fantastic shooting! The 77 is one accurate rifle. Is it stock, no upgrades? What power is your Airmax? I have an Airmax 4-12 x50 on my 97k. I don’t think I could hit something that small and 71 meters though. I also think your W H 50 is more accurate than mine.
your just heading into the good shooting weather and I am going out of it . I live up here in Nova Scotia Canada and we’re just starting to get some cool weather which means snow pretty soon.
Stay steady and shoot straight,
Al

Hi Al, my 77 is stock, didn’t even clean the barrel when I bought it new. The scope on the 77 is this video was not an airmax, but now it wears4*12*40. This rifle is my best distance pest exterminator.
Love the heat.

Fantastic news Gary! Congrats!! Look into making a simple press and the pin is no problem.

Got Grops?
You mentioned “making a simple press” to make the pivot bolt/ shim washer installation easier. I have had problems myself not with my HW 30 but with my HW95. The tolerance are so tight, it can be a nightmare. Could you explain this in a bit more detail? Thanks ,
Al

Totally different animal. The HW-30 can be done pretty much by hand when you are used to it. The 95 is a bit tougher. Look on YT for ideas that may appeal to you. You can use different methods to build a simple clamp that allows you to keep the spring compressed while removing/installing the pins.

Ok Thanks . I completely misunderstood your comment about the compressor. I have made a solid compressor to take out all the springs in my air rifles. I just have a hard time getting the pivot bolt in with the two shims because of the tolerances. I do realize that the pivot bolt and shims go in before the spring. Both shims slide in very easily on my 30 but on the 95 I have to work out for a long time and when I do finally get them lined up it’s almost a fluke because I don’t know how I did it.
