You may consider an investment in some alternate type of pellets at this point rather than a tune kit. Sometimes just finding the right pellet for your airgun makes all the difference in the world tightening up groups. My HW30 likes the JSB 7.33's the best. If your a fan of H&N pellets give the FTT's a try and they are available in several different head sizes.

Gary. As promised I went ahead & made a longer range at home and this is the best I can do now. For the full test head over to my thread, don’t want to bug yours down too much.

HW30. Macari Spring Kit. 35 yards exactly. AirArms 8.4gr. Hawke 12x. 5 shot group.

Replacement scope arrived yesterday, it was the second scope sent, the first one got nicked in the mail. It’s still not shooting how I had expected it to, at 26 metres I can’t get it to group consistently.

First 5, 3 shot groups all stringing high this morning. Put up target at 20 metres, zeroed it in and all’s great. Half little fingernail 5 and ten shot groups. Put target back out to 26 metres re zeroed and first 7 or so shots dead on then next 5 dropped and grouped half inch lower.

Scratching my head on this one, I’ll order some JSB’s and see what happens. If pellets aren’t the problem I’ll open it up and have a bopeek.

To all those agn members who offered their advice and knowledge a big 😊 thank you from me. My little Hw30 has got its mojo back. I pulled it apart, inspected it, filled off some rough parts on the tube, cleaned it and put it back together. The hardest part was for me putting the pivot bolt back in. I may put a Vortek kit in it if I feel like having another go at that bloody pivot bolt.

Thank you again

Gary

No photos yet. I used a press to remove and refit the spring. The German video I watched two guys were fitting the pivot bolt as if the rifles barrel was closed. I tried that but couldn’t get it in, so In the end I held the closed barrel in place and in line with the compression chamber and gently tensioned it until I could fit the bolt. That was ok but then I had to do it all again as one of the pivot washers was out of alignment 🤔

Anyway all’s good, I tried shooting at 40 metres just then, I could get a couple of shots in the half inch bull but then she would open up where as half the shots would be up to an inch or inch and a half away. I can’t get anywhere near your group that you posted at 50 yards. I’ll fiddle around with the trigger a bit more. I know I keep saying it but I’m going to get me some of those 8.44 gr jsb’s.

They certainly not endowed with a lot of power are they the rifle is zeroed at 20 metres and at 40 metres I was using a 2 milldot holdover.

Ill keep experimenting. I’m going outside now to shoot my HW77 as I feel the need for speed.

Gary

The 30 isn’t a beastly powerhouse that’s for sure, but it sure is fun and easy to shoot. If you order some JSBs, try and get the 10.34s and the 8.44s as well.

Mine was pretty accurate with the “stock” spring, but I did install a Macari kit just because. Mine was pre owned, so not sure if anyone had tinkered with it, but I doubt it.

There was a noticeable difference in quality of the spring.

You just wouldn’t believe it, these things can only happen to me. A couple of weeks ago I received my replacement Airmax 2*7*30 from the Hawke distributor in Queensland, great people. When I was trouble shooting my little 30’s intricacies I removed the reliable accurate Airmax 4*12*40 from my LGV and put it on the 30 to see if the 2*7*30 was part of the problem. Anyway the scope was half the problem so I left the 4*12*40 on my little HW30 and put the new 2*7*30 on the LGV. You guessed it the 4*12*40 failed last week and I was chasing zero all over the place. Am I jinxed or what, 3 scope failures in under 3 months and 2 of them on a 6 foot pound gun.

The Hawke people are replacing the scope for me, they are shaking heads as well, unbelievable.

Peter I didn’t think of that but the LGV is shooting accurately with the new 7*12*30 on it so I assumed it was the scope as I have a backup scope on the 30 now and it’s holding zero. The backup scope is for a rimfire rifle but I’ve got it sitting on a ZR mount. Anyway it’s too late now as I sent the scope off in the mail yesterday.

I'm not so sure you wouldn't be better off putting the replacement 4*12*40 scope on your LGV, finding a new home for the HW30, and learning to just be happy with the LGV.

I'm not one to give up on anything easily; but for all of the time, money and trouble you've gone through with the HW30, unless you have a very good reason for getting it, I think I'd be asking myself if it has really been worth it.

Just something to consider.

Less is more, and more is less...

I chose the HW30 based on its reputation as an accurate easy to cock plinker, one that if I wanted to could shoot all day. You are certainly close with your statement, it has been a long costly and frustrating journey but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll stick with it some more and see how it pans out, I do want to put a kit in it and that is an extra cost as well but something keeps telling me to push on.

Maybe I have a very servere case of plinkitis.😜😜 but I will be putting the replacement 4*12*40 on the LGV when it arrives

Well, as a priest-monk, I tell people all the time, "Pray, and do what brings you peace."

It's always good for us to test our thoughts. If they bring us peace, they generally are from God. If we find ourselves nervous or agitated or uneasy, they are from the devil.

That makes choosing a lot easier.

May God help you do what's best for your plinkitis.

Gary, I think it's definitely worth double checking the scope zero by placing it back on the LGV or another proven gun to make sure it's not the HW30 (as suggested above). Question I have is: if it's not the scope and the gun can be proven to be faulty, can you claim the warranty on it and get a replacement? I'm sure that will take till May 2020. Way I see it, these are not cheap toys and should work as advertised.

While I am a huge advocate of the Vortek kit, I will say that mine shot very accurately even before I installed the new kit.

I know my grief will not make your's any better, but here is my Hawke story. I bought one of the new Compact models recently, shot that 50 yard group I posted a few days ago using it. Scope is really nice, but...I just had to return it. Darn knob that turns the illuminated reticle on/off was so difficult to turn that would require a wrench. Not sure I will replace it at this point.

I really hope you can get the HW30 to work for you, it really is everything everyone says it is.
