HW/Weihrauch HW50 .22 Open Sights 50'

I could not agree more. I have a AA tx200 and prosport, and a HW97 and 98, all requiring scopes and are heavy. I tend to ignore them and go with one of the other guns outfitted with diopter sights. I like to stand up and shoot offhand, and honestly I tend to shake and weave more, at least it seems that way with a scope, the diopter equipped guns just feel steadier, from the little HW57 to my big FWB 300s and HW 77.
You may shake and weave more when the gun is weighted down by a scope but it also may be you just notice it more through a scope. Back when I did a lot of PB revolver shooting I discovered I shot worse at close range paper when a revolver was scoped because I could see my wobble and would jerk the trigger the moment the crosshairs were on target. Using factory irons the sight picture looked rock solid the whole time and I had a confident, perfect trigger squeeze and almost always scored higher.

Absolutely. Look up purpose tremor. It doesn't apply to everyone but I will tell you I shoot better with less magnification. Magnification obviously magnifies my wobble and my brain goes into a vicious correction cycle that becomes like speaker feedback. That's benched prone or offhand. I wobble the most offhand so I over correct the wobble the most offhand.

The more pressure on me the more I over correct as well. I tend shoot better when I'm relaxed and there no pressure.

Seems the higher the magnafaction the more I over think /react . When I scope I try to use the lowest power and kinda seems to help to what you said above ..🥴

I can't see the bull's with diopters unless it is very great contrast IE: dark ink bright white paper and a spot light .
As levgen721 said, the secret is the aperture size. The OEM eyepieces on most diopter sights typically have about a 1mm opening - optimized for a well-lit target range, exactly as you describe. Most current adjustable irises open up to 3mm which helps out in the real world.

This is the main detail difference between the two classes of aperture sights. A sporting "peep" is a small sight where you look through a big hole in a small eyepiece. A match "diopter" is a big sight where you look through a small hole in a big eyepiece.

Even a simple adjustable aperture like a Gehmann 510 is a huge asset (you can get these with polarizers, color filters, and magnifying lenses in literally any combo, but the basic iris alone is not too pricey and a big step up). Think of it as making either a peep or a diopter able to better imitate the other, lol.

The condition of your eyes matters too of course. Before I got cataracts fixed, my old eyeballs floated a fuzzy brown spot in the middle of any aperture smaller than 2mm! Now I'm again able to use small openings. 🤓

I think a lot of it has to do with being relaxed. If you're seeing something bounce around in the scope and you're not used to it, you will start to stress out.
But with apertures or irons it doesn't seem quite as bad. Like my old smallbore coach Dick Vrooman used to say."Hold the eight ring and the tens will come on their own" I think with a scope I tend to try to hold too "hard"

The best match I ever shot was the day after dental surgery when I was still on pain medication. don't misunderstand I did not take them right before the match. The match was late in the afternoon and the last pill I had taken was in the morning but there was enough residual to make me not stress.

This is due to the magnification and lens diameter of the scope. If you don't have a Parkinson's and you're not an alcoholic...

yes, stock sights with the post insert up front.
The skinny Weihrauch post insert works so darn well.
I am at the point where the small lollipop is harder to pick up clearly, so I have switched to the skinny post. I can hold finer with the skinny post VS the tapered post, but the tapered post is actually the best for pesting, with my eyes at least.

I also find the skinny post to be a lot easier to use shooting at various sized targets in the field. That's why i'm leaving it as is.
