HW50S (Journey) - Krale! Dang You!

Howdy all!

I have placed my order with Krale for a WH50S in .177. All thanks to AGN for the help and education.

A Williams sight and two tins of H&N Match Baracuda’s headed my way as well.

What are my first steps upon receiving the rifle? Clean barrel, I know some screws need loc tite. What have people experiences been in/lbs on the various screws?

I like to document my time with my hobbies. I will keep this thread plugged in the loop! Thanks again !

You don't need Loctite on the screws. Once the wood settles in they'll stop backing out on their own. Just go over them before you shoot for the first tin or two. As far as torque goes I use 20inlbs at the front stock screw, 40inlbs at the front, larger trigger guard screw, and 20inlbs at the rear, smaller trigger guard screw. Aside from that just clean the barrel good and go have some fun. Congrats on the new gun!

You have picked a winner. !. Don't rush it. Clean the barrel, check the screws, hand tight, no more. Shoot it, repeat, then shoot it again. You will probably experience some dieseling at first, then it should subside after a while. You will find that it will probably smooth out a bit with use. Expect about 11 1/2 ft lbs of power ( around 815 fps with a JSB 7.87). The accuracy will settle as the gun gets broken it. Just be patient and enjoy a great air rifle.

Nice! Can't wait to see some pictures of that, when it comes in!

I started with a Beeman R9 (HW95). Be patient and let it break in. You'll love it. Took about 500 shots with the R9 to really notice it smoothing out and the accuracy tightening up. For certain will notice some dieseling for 100-200 pellets or so. Will smell it. I got a HW30S coming from AoA, will be going thought the whole process again with that.

Brenton, excellent advice you have here, a nice rifle and accessories you have chosen. Clean the barrel, and, again, clean the barrel.
Choose a tin of pellets that you are comfortable with and shoot the WHOLE tin at 20-25 yards to settle it in and get a feel for what the 50S is asking of YOU.
You know the drill 😉
Adjust from there and enjoy 😁
Check back soon and share.

cgrats. I don't know what rust proofing they use to protect the barrel but it's hard to get out. Do u have a patch-worm cleaning kit? Get 1 if u don't. they're like $10. Keep the 2 screw drivers your gonna need handy. I keep mine with my tin of pellets. Be careful not to bugger-up the trigger adjustment screw, it's very soft metal. Make a mental note how the screws slots r positioned, check that often. My trigger adj screw on my HW50 S .177 will back out quite easily on it's own. Try all 3 sizes of the H&N FTT pellets. Mine likes the H&N 4.50mm and the H&N Barracuda Match best. Experiment with how you hold or grip the thing. I have found that my poi changes if I go from a sitting position to standing one. Mine likes to be held lightly but it or I disagrees slightly with the artillery hold. good luck

Take it out of the box, and strip the gun down and relube it with moly paste.

Bypass all of the dieseling and break in song and dance and then have it shooting well from the start.

That's my preferred approach.

Otherwise, despite what kind of claims you might read on the internet:
1) Don't squirt stuff through the transfer port
2) Don't LocTite the action screws
3) Don't shoot cleaning pellets through it

Either way in my opinion you made a much better choice than the HW80. The 50S is one of, if not THE best shooting springers on the market for the power it puts out.

FYI my new HW95L was damaged by dieseling from over oiling/greasing at the Weihrauch factory. Pic of seal that was replaced with a Vortek seal and ARH kit. Excellent shooter now after about 9K shots.

^ That is what's happening during that arbitrary "1000 shot break-in" that someone made up at sometime in airgun history.

When I first got my HW 50s I was not happy,it was rough shooting.I could tell it had potential ,good trigger and was accurate.
Took a long time to get smoother;I read up on it and found out others had the same problem, seems the cocking level is double-jointed and this causes a rubbing sound.OK that does not affect anything except "the rub".....I put up with it and was surprised no one on this site ever mentioned it.
Now I have a LD Stock on it and a JM tune kit to put in it ,so you see it has grown on my,like "tag" LOL.

Good choice on the 50. The double jointed cocking lever is the chink in its armor. As you do break in, concentrate on the cocking cycle. If you ever feel a slight drag that suddenly feels different, stop immediately and install a Tune kit with a sleeve. I use the Vortek kit. You will permanently damage the receiver because the lever has started to gull into the groove on the receiver. The spring has taken a negative set and is twisting the piston sideways. It’s rubbing on the groove and will soon start gulling into the receiver. Sometimes the spring stays straight and it’s never a issue. If the spring does take a negative set it’s usually within a tin or two of pellets. Just something to watch for and and easy fix. I wish I knew this 40 years ago. If you want to be proactive then just install the kit right away. Good stocking stuffer. Merry Christmas.

The newer Hw50s have a spring loaded plastic glide installed in the cocking arm. This will prevent the galling BOG was referring to. Galling is still an issue with the similar designed Hw30.
Also there is a spring under the plastic glide to eliminate the cocking arm from rattling when closing the gun. I find the spring pressure can squeegee out the grease and eventually makes the cocking feel gritty. I've found I can live with a little rattle closing the gun to keep the gun cocking smoothly. Otherwise you may periodically have to remove the stock and regrease the cocking parts.

The 50 tends to be twangy from the factory and benefits greatly from a tune kit. The Vortek kits work great but you have to make sure that cocking foot that hooks the piston doesn't cut into the steel outer spring guide. I've had to grind, radius and polish the cocking foot on more than one Hw50 PG4 kit.

The 50 is a great gun. You should enjoy it. Just take the time to break in and learn how to shoot a springer (if you don't already).

Howdy all!

I’ll be the first to admit I am an idiot. And this may qualify as pure stupidity. So here goes.

Ordered my rifle with a bank transfer. Krale emailed their IBAN and BAC #’s. I sent the appropriate amount through a money gram. Have emailed Krale for guidance since Friday morning to no response. I even tried calling to no answer. They were probably busy? How long do they typically take to respond!

Thanks all!

I think Krale is 6 or 7 hours ahead of US eastern standard time. They were probably closed on Friday when you emailed them. They typically have responded to my emails the next business day.

That’s kinda what I had thought and hoped! My sight and Match Baracudas are shipped and headed my way! Could have sworn there was a .22 worm in the order but I was mistaken. I’ll head to our local Sportsman’s Warehouse and pick one up.
