HW70A Black Arrow

I've had this pistol for a few months now. Fun to shoot! I brought the scope height down a bit by replacing the Weihrauch high mounts ( that came with the package ) with the set up seen below (low Vortex picatinny mounts & UTG adaptor bases). Added a grip sleeve for better purchase/handling.

The pistol is stock & barrel untouched with the exception of cleaning patches and WD40/denatured alcohol.

Capable of shooting ragged hole groups at 10-12 yards standing on a "zen day".

This morning it was fun to shoot at grass tips uncovered in the snow and see a pellet trail form in the new snow🤓👍🏻

Nice pistol there JP, is the Diana LP8 in your radar too?

Thanks bud, I had one for a short time but found it to have awkward balance in the hand. The size/length/top-heavy weight distribution didn't merit keeping it, especially when compared to the performance of the Beeman P1/P11/HW45.

The HW70 Black Arrow is a mild mannered pistol. Easy to cock, not hard to shoot and pretty quiet: no worries shooting inside a hotel with a portable silent pellet trap (small electrical panel box with duct-seal)🤓

The grip is plastic. Not bad looking as plastic goes but it is plastic. I think in the past the Black Arrow model came with black grips but may be wrong. I took a shot at making a wood stock/grips for my HW 70 but was a bit beyond my skill level. I thought mine felt a little top-heavy. Nice guns though and seem to be under appreciated. Don't hear many talk about them.

Yes, as tinker said the grip is plastic but it has some depth to it thanks to the 'wood like' pattern and matte sheen. Not cheap looking plastic, if you know what I mean.

The cocking effort is very light. No real learning curve involved like the Beeman P1/P11/HW45 or P3/HW40 or HW75. Just an intuitive, short downward stroke.

The Black Arrow is a current production gun, so yes, still available.

Here is a pic from a while back with the package included Weihrauch 2 piece high mounts and Weihrauch 2x20 pistol scope:

I also tried a Burris Fast Fire III mounted. Very slick set up IMO, great balance too.

But I settled with the Weihrauch 2X20 scope, mounted as low as possible. Lower center of gravity, improved balance and steadiness compared to the high mount set up:

What's the fps & power output? Will it take down a squirrel?

I don't know yet, and my labradar is set up for airguns with a pickup microphone to activate it. But it resides at my son's home. The Black Arrow sits in a box on the porch and my energy budget with my back is spent for an hour or so. The Black Arrow was delivered this morning. May give a report in a week. Doing some heavy gardening, the back is complaining. Be Well Pistoleros, Bandito.

I shared some tuning tips with Johnny on that link. I managed to just about hit 480fps after a slight drop back from the 490 fps I got from the first 100
shots.. Nothing earth shattering even after major tuning, but it became a clean hole cutter on paper targets, improved accuracy and scoring on the target, and to answer your question probably would take a squirrel with head shot (only) at 8-10 yds max..
Without major tuning, they are typically a good 40 fps faster than the usual SSP brigade like the HW75 once broken in.

I really like the BA. I think it is the perfect compliment to an HW30. Great all day shooter and I have taken a few grackles with it. Really smacks a soup can at 20 yards.

Here is my shot string.
