Tuning HW77k regular maintenance

I've been watching videos and learning up on what the required maintenance is for springers since getting my HW77k. It's an oldie from the 80s but shoots very smooth. I removed the stock and oiled all the cocking hinges today.

Onto my question - do I need to oil the piston seal as part of regular maintenance? If so - how do I get to the piston seal? Is this like a strip, clean and lube kinda job or something that can be done from the outside?

Thanks

What you did is good for now. If the gun is shooting smoothly and quietly don't mess with it. Internally they need very little lubricant. That gun can't be internally lubed properly without tearing it down and using some form of grease.

Any oil introduced to the spring or piston chamber will dilute the grease and likely cause excessive dieseling or detonation. Both bad for the gun. It damages the spring and piston seal.

Just enjoy the gun for now. If something doesn't feel or sound right with it, then tear it down and freshen it up.

These guns are damaged more often by well meaning people trying to take care of them, then by normal use or even neglect.

Enjoy your new rifle. They're great guns.
