HW95 - which tuning kit is best for DIY?

Well fellas I'm a big enough man to eat crow when I deserve it, I just shot another squirrel off the storage trailer with the R9 using the RWS hollow points I shot it in the upper ribcage and it dumped it, went through both sides about 20 yards away. I don't know what happened with the other squirrel other than I didn't hit it as good as I thought. Sorry for the rant guys, I feel like an idiot😞

You definitely need a chronograph. Mine came from Amazon for $30.00. I love my Arh Hornet spring kit. No twang at all and more accurate. I had the Vortek seal but I found it was a harsher shot cycle and the fps was 730 ish with H&N Ftt 5.53

I put the original seal back in.(715ish) The Barracuda 18gr shoot around 630fps. The Hades 15.89 were the slowest at 600-640 and the highest spread. If you want more than that you will likely need another brand.

I know your frustration with spending that much money and still having to spend more but in my case the extra 100.00 pn the Hornet kit was well worth it.
I have shot through fence boards. I'll have to try the plywood. I have taken most of my squirrels from 30 yards and 1 from 45. They are very tough but a head shot or chest shot will usually do it. I had one run and I thought I missed but it was dead 10yards into the brush

FYI I put a droop compensating mount and an Athlon Ares 2-12x42 on it and over 1000 rounds with no problems. I spent way more than I thought I would but I have no regrets. Heck just the money I spent on pellets to find a good one!

Thanks for the reply, I have no issues with the accuracy of this rifle it will make one hole groups at 25 yards with the RWS Super H Points and the 14.3 gr Benjamin HP's, what's surprising is those two pellets have the same point of impact, I could switch from one to another and they'd go into the same group, I've never experienced that before. I'm not sure what's going on but I shot another squirrel that was trying to get into my storage trailer this morning I was using the RWS hollow points I hit it in the forward ribcage I clipped the rear of its front leg, the shot was a complete pass through and the squirrel just plopped to the ground, this was at aproximately 20 yards.

Can't ask for better than that. I was typing the response when you posted the message about the squirrel. That's great that it shoots the Crosmans so well because of the price. I'm not that lucky. I haven't tried any RWS pellets in the R9 but the super h points were the best in a Gamo .177.
I really can't justify trying any more pellets because the Ftt work so well. I'm getting bored at 18 yards and 30 yards. I need to try a little further out.
In your case you would only need a kit if you want less buzz or more power. It took me about 2000 shots to decide to put the kit. Your gun may have less twang than mine did or it just doesn't bother you. Maybe it was me but my accuracy wasn't great before. I've also learned to be more consistent with my hold so that helps.

I have the exact same results others have posted with an ARH kit and Vortek seal in my 2018 HW95L .22. I also used Krytox GPL-205 after a through clean/polish. My rifle is soundless cocking until the piston latches and shoots 730 FPS using FTT 14.66 5.53 mm pellets. 5 at 25 with my 95.

Thanks for the quick replies fellas, I think I'm just going to keep shooting it for now, I bought it new three weeks ago and I don't even have a full tin of pellets through it yet, I hate the thought of tearing into the rifle and replacing parts after just paying $500 for it, but I think the Vortek HO kit is in its future.

Thanks again guys
Well taking it apart aint a big deal.. like i said could be just sloppy hw assembly like lots of paste on the spring and little to none on the seal ..lol your not going to hirt it or yourself to inspect things inside. Just go ahead and get plenty of break in shots and see where it goes.. may smooth out and alls well..

You say less then a tin so your still in a break in period. Ive had one go wonky from great shooting to bad then finally settled in to pretty nice shooting ..

Honestly these hw's is a gun a guy got to work or finesse in.. then just about the time you get it just right the spring breaks..lol. ( a spring lasts me 1 year , but a real high shot count , real high) ..

P.s....

Also if all else fails and your done with it you can always gift it to me.. 😉

I also did the Krytox. Expensive but shouldn't have to do it often.
