Is this just sanded from the factory or is it sealed with something? Put a few coats of tung oil and once it dried it looked the same.

What do you mean by drinking? What work do you prefer? I want to have the wood semi glossy lookingUnless the pores are filled walnut will keep drinking oil finishes. What’s your end goal ?
That stock could be a real looker with some work. Lots of chatoyance in that wood.

This is an example of a filled satin when looking at it but sheen across it fire arms finish.. There isn’t one Airgun manufacture that does a proper oil finish.
wiping oil on hungry wood is fruitless. It will seep in and after the 56 th coat you will start to get grain dish out build.. View attachment 510378

You can see how the grip is shadowing the light fully filled and sealed. It’s not the hardest and your not far off from filling. Once filled it’s very quick

This is a older HW 80 ,.22 I made for myself. I rarely use any barrel longer than 13 inches shrouded, to 17 with some internal work .
