Beeman I couldn't resist 🤪(Update it's finally here)

That’s a beauty congrats! I can only imagine the state of the grease inside there.
Ran a few shots across the chrony this morning before the tear down! It's right at 770fps with FTTs. Hopefully will have time this coming week to tune her up to a smooth shooting classic!

I'm glad it finally arrived. If you can't straighten out the windage knob let me know. I can probably dig one up for you if you need one.

Congrats
Ron
Thanks Ron I'll see if I can straighten it out! Probably will be loosing the sights and getting scope soon. My old eyes don't do well with irons anymore.

I keep hearing this and for fun, go check all the major pellet sources and find plenty.of of stock to be had.
The lack of variety has a little more truth to it, but the pellets that work are usually FTT or JSB 13.73. All that variety would just be setting on your shelf as the ones that didn't work. 👍
I've got a stash of FTTs, JSBs, crosman premiers, and a bunch of polymags! Lol. Oh don't forget Barracudas.
Even have some of the old gold top JSBs!
Probably 10,000 rounds in .20 🤪

Is that right? Exact .20 cals (13.73gr.) produce 19.5 fpe at 800 fps. To get down to 15 fpe, the Exacts should do only 700 fps. At 800 fps the pellets would need to weigh only 10.6gr. to keep at 15 fpe.

So, do you recommend taking the HW80 .20 cal all the way down to 700 fps, to a HW95 level?
No .... the .20's excel in the 15-20 fpe range for most who shoot them ... Self included (y)

Keep me posted on that .135 kit. Sounds like a great kit. The bigger .148 wire high power kit is a lot of spring for that gun.
Spent a good part of the day yesterday cleaning polishing and tuning her up.
Installed that kit and fitted a Vulcan SS piston seal that I had in my stash. I left it a bit on the tight side to shoot it in! Put a couple dozen through it before the chrony. Average right at 745 with FTTs and it will probably climb a bit as I shoot it in. Dead thump shot cycle 👍 cleaned and lightly lubed the trigger and set the sear to my liking too! Might try a VAC seal down the road to see if there's a difference in power.

That’s gota be a nice shot cycle. I love the dead thump ,with little to no recoil. I’m building a highly modded R1 now that’s gonna be a 90 mm stroke vrs 80 factory and it’s gonna be .25 cal. Full Monty custom piston build and port work as well as back block work to get the needed clearance and spring stack.

Sounds like it's going to be a real thumper! Comparable to a Tomahawk?
Or maybe a little more.

More. , Tommy’s are over achievers but you do pay for that heavy piston and long stroke with a jolt , it’s dead blow but they recoil. My Hw 80/R1 have very little at 20 ft lbs.
I’ve got a 118 mm 30 mm tube gun with a Rekord trigger or CD , ROUGHED UP TO
I swore I would not do another big gun build , after the Firefox build . However; the three guns I just built are all the same footprint using Rekord or CD UNITS.
CENTER latch pistons are much better balance and shot cycle. As weight is dead center and less spring is needed

Not trying to be a jerk. That's only about 14 fpe. I'm pretty sure I've had that same kit in my 20 cal R1 and you should be over 800 fps, some where around 17 fpe.

Ive used those seals too. Those seals need to be sized to work well. Even then the VAC will still improve performance.

I said, "pretty sure" because I believe you mentioned your spring is the identical size as my JM kit and mine only produces "mid power " When I bought mine it wasnt marketed as such. JM has since changed his listings. I still have that kit. Its smooth nice shooter.

Good luck with the rifle let me know if you need any help.

Ron

Jerk away I'm listening! 🤣😂
You are oh so right Mr Ron I've actually had issues with parachute style seals before. They need super fine tuning and not gonna go that route this time!
VAC seal in the house and in the R1 now!
Just took a couple dozen shots over the chrony and she's still climbing 👍 still has a solid thump but quite a bit snappier shot cycle! Gonna be a squirrel killing machine 😉

There is plenty of .20 cal. pellets available now (now is the operative word here), however that wasn't the case six months ago or for some times before that, that's why air gunners who contemplate including their air guns a foraging tools in their emergency stores almost always recommend getting .177 or .22 caliber air rifles, because they are the most popular calibers in air guns and will always be available when other calibers are scarce and hard to get.
Pellet makers concentrate their efforts in making the most popular calibers first to meet demand, once they have reached their quotas of .177's and .22's in all their various types and weights, then they move to the next most popular which is usually the .25 caliber, the .20 caliber (5mm) is the least popular caliber being sold today, and fewer air gun makers are making .20 air rifles.
Which is why it's important to keep a modest stock of the type of pellet your gun likes, in times when there's a shortage you may be forced to buy what ever is available unless you have planned ahead.

If I could find it here in the archives, I'd bet it was six months ago that I did that experiment and posted the results. Even Utah Airguns, who doesn't sell any .20 cal guns had .20 cal ammo in stock at the time.
It doesn't matter the caliber if you have a shooter that eats ammo, you need to keep a supply on hand. 👍

I usually buy my pellets from Pyrimyd Air or Airgun Depot, back about a year or so ago none of the bigger venders had any .20 cal. pellets, then I got a PM from a forum member suggesting I try Trainor Air gun Supply Co., they had some and at the regular retail not the inflated prices the other stores put on their pellets, and had no limits on how much you could purchase, their service was great, shipping fast, and they were well packaged.
I have two .20 cal. rifles, a vintage Sheridan Blue Streak and a Weirauch HW-80K, the Sheridan will shoot great with just about any pellet, but the HW-80 is a bit fussy, so stocking what it likes is important to me.

A good .20 cal that I have used it is the Predator Polymag, but those are a bit more rare than the standards in .20 cal.
I have four Sheridans an HW30, HW95, and HW97, so the .20 cals go off the shelf pretty quick. Lol
👍

I think you might mean Trenier.

I've bought well over a 100 tins of JSB and H&Ns in three calibers from them over the years. Excellent shipping and service at fair pricing. When practical I prefer buying from a smaller business like Trenier (Jeff Reinert owner) before giving my money to a giant PA.
