I Feel The Need For Speed- New CF Tank on The Small Bore Texan 257

With the new stock build I fitted a carbon fiber tank to the 257 Texan. Had some time today to shoot it over the chronograph, which is a MagnetoSpeed V3. The extra 600 psi gave some nice increases on heavier bullets.

The Arsenal 85gr Spitzer weighing 86gr, are shooting at 1082 FPS / 223 FPE. At 3000 psi they shoot at 1007 FPS / 193 FPE

The Arsenal 257-92 Grain LFN are shooting at 1040 FPS/ 223 FPE

The NOE 258-75-FN HP weighing in at 72gr are shooting at 1128 FPE/ 203 FPE. I backed the power wheel off and got them down to 1090. At 1128 I was getting a sonic crack.

The a 60gr HP and 61gr FN were shooting at 1190 FPS / 190 FPE.

I am looking forward to getting to the range and trying out the extra speed!

If Airforce were to sell their rifles with a stock like yours I’m sure they’d have a hard time keeping them on the shelves. Great job . Very impressive power from this rifle , are you using the stock internals?

Thanks! Everything is OEM except the CF tank. The valve flows plenty of air, and the hammer spring is NOT maxed out.

Awesome looking texan...now I know what numbers to expect from mine..thanks for the post..have to start buying new molds...almost all my mols are NOS old lyman chart molds..this week manage to buy rcbs 257-100 ... and a BBM iron version of the 257-312 -- 80g and a Winchester 257-20 - 85g gc..

That’s a great looking Air Gun, sounds like it’s more than capable too. I’d love to hear more about group sizes and such when you get some range time in.
