I finally got a Bullpup!

I received my Akela the other day; I was leary because I shoot left-handed;I shoulder it, and it was okay.
Now I realize why so many people like them. They fit well. The next thing was mounting a scope; I mounted Hawke Vantage with medium rings, which was too low, then used Burris extra high rings; Burris makes some Great rings. But the scope was too long fir my taste;I like good aesthetics,so a shorter scope was in order,I know I had a Westhunter, some were, but then I stumbled on my Barra scope 4-12x40, now we be talking, great scope.....where is my setup, oh high rings. After mounting the scope, my first shoot with no setup was very close to my aim. Great,I am happy; I may be converted now, maybe.OK,I must wait to post a picture:rolleyes:

I’ve got four of them now and I feel they have their own pros and cons. It’s kind of like when people talk about .177 being better than .22. Well, it is and it isn’t.

To me most bullpups feel like they were cut from a 2x10, just very blocky and awkward. Some are better than others though and the Hubens are pretty decent in this regard. IMO, the sights are universally too high on bullpups just due to the layout and ergonomics in general are also usually worse.

At the same time however, bullpups give you a longer barrel, bigger reservoir, and a more compact package and these are real and significant advantages. It also moves the balance more to the rear, which I also feel is worthwhile.

I wouldn’t want one in a firearm as my go to rifle or shotgun. With firearms I feel that the compromises aren’t worth the benefits. With airguns however I think the advantages of a bullpup layout often outweigh the disadvantages.

Not to be a contrarian, but I'll mention one thing for consideration relative to bullpups. Your ear is much closer to the TP and chamber of the barrel, so the loudest sound is closer to you. I'm maybe overly sensitive to this issue, because I have lost most of my hearing, and largely shooting related. So, if you don't routinely use hearing protection with your air rifles, you might want to consider it with a bullpup. Lost hearing cannot be restored.

Jace let me know how you like the tune kit on your Akela. I have a 177 and a tune kit coming tomorrow(Saturday)
Will do! I assume the smaller spring is for the valve? I haven't out that one in yet, but I did replace the HS. It's 2.50" long and the coils are 1.63" thick, not sure how it'll work with @EPG suggested tunes but I'll see what I can manage.

I ordered one yesterday. My buddy did too with the tune kit. When I checked they were sold out of the tune kit. I told another friend about the 177, when he checked they were all gone. I don't think they lasted 12 hours.

This will be my first 177 PCP. I hear they shoot very fast. What pellets to those that have them are accurate? Will they shoot the 13 and 15 gr pellets? Just what does the tune kit do? Slow them down and give more shots or speed them up. For $189. I could not let it go again. You see these sales you have to buy right away.

Good looking gun Nkcaudill.

For lefty, the lever does not bother me,it is not by your ear , but in front of your nose,I have Italian nose. To cock it,I have to drop it down some, holding it in my right hand and reaching over with my left.I do not find it hard.Yes ,you should be able to change the lever to the left, but you can't..So next Bullpup, I am going to be able to cock it with my left hand, the action being in the middle of the rifle where it should be......ya I liken this Bullpup "thing"

Very nice. I like my my Zelos bullpup , but had to bottle it , so I could turn the reg up to 2, 900 to use these 28 grain .22 cal slugs. Dang it I have 15 air guns , but now I want a wooden bullpup too.
