I need help

If you are in Eastern MT close to the Dakotas, and if the mounds/holes are big enough for a cows leg to fall into, you are looking at a prairie dog colony. Never hunted those critters with an air rifle. .22LR and.223, yes. My longest shot a couple years ago 459 yds with a .223 ballistic tip. Those suckers do cartwheels on impact!

I think with a pcp, slugs would perform the best over 100 yds. Those critters are pretty skittish and tend to run down their holes when they hear shots.

We're in western Montana, North of Whitefish. They aren't prairie dogs, they are most definitely ground squirrels. Spent the day in Plains at the ranch looking to shoot them and pigeons. We sat in the shade on an elevated trail overlooking the paddocks. The +90° temps kept the critters in their holes and we only saw one all day. Still a great day hiking and exploring an old settlers homestead upon the hill.

OK, you're close to Glacier. How's the air quality? The ground looks like its been dry. I'm in the Upper Midwest and we're getting smoked out from Western States and Canada fires.

Yesterday the smoke was bad at the ranch. At one point while on our hike, it looked like the ranch was burning. This morning at the house the air is much better. The mountains are visible and somewhat clear.
