I Think I'm Ready for the Thieving Ba$tards

Are starlings really a invasive species ? i mean they did not fly in from Mexico or Canada / Russia as far as i know.

I would call them "the huge mistake of our forefathers", as i think Australians should also call a few things out there.

Point taken. Their invasion was well sponsored. " Transplant species"

Starlings really are invasive. The dictionary definition of invasive. Not native to Mexico or Canada.

Nice shooting but holy smokes you are shooting really hot for 20 yards. Those pellets would zip right through your bird feeders and destroy them. At that distant I probably would shoot the crosman pellet at 650FPS at the most, 500fps at that distance is still more than enough.

I choose my shots carefully I don't want to have to degas and recharge my rifle to adjust the regulator. Besides I might want to take the occasional 50yd shot.

+1 w/ what gball said. For 20 yard shooting on starlings/grackles: my scoped (Barska 4X32AO mil dot) Winchester 1977XS at 5 pumps and 655 fps/7.5 fpe; using Daisy 7.87 wadcutters, works quite well.

So I am supposed to degas my rifle, and make a regulator change for every range I expect to shot? I'm shooting a PCP in case you haven't noticed.

Give me a break. Why are there so many people on this forum that insist that everyone must do things their way when it isn't even practical in some cases?

Practical? 1040 fps w/ .22 CPHP / 800 fps w/ FX hygrid slugs is a good choice for (up to) 50 yard shooting on coons/possum. If you use it for that, then good for you. Ever hear of the old adage ... .177 for feather, .22 for fur?

Sounds to me like you need another air gun. The one you're using now is far too powerful for 20 yard backyard bird shooting. 'So many people on this forum' ... often have air guns that are tailor made to fit various applications. You apparently do not. But, you could. It's up to you though.

Thank you for proving my point.

All that really matters is that I am happy with what I have and I do not intend to buy another air rifle to suit you. And why do you assume that I bought my rifle just for back yard bird shooting? I think that's a bit pretentious. If I buy another weapon it will be a 28ga S/S, not an air rifle. Your opinion really doesn't matter.

Perhaps you should have quoted this part of my post instead ... "1040 fps w/ .22 CPHP / 800 fps w/ FX hygrid slugs is a good choice for (up to) 50 yard shooting on coons/possum. If you use it for that, then good for you." (No, of course I didn't think backyard birding was your intended usage for your pricey toy. You're just trying to kill two birds w/ the wrong stone ... so to speak.)

Since you're all about practicality, how 'practical' is it to use a $400 scope for 20 yard backyard birding?

Nice pic .... is that a house I see in the background? Close neighbors? How do they feel about you shooting a high powered air rifle in their direction?

No, you wouldn't be buying a more 'practical' air rifle for your backyard birding for me. You'd be doing it for the sake of your neighbors. And, perhaps yourself, should they ever be inclined to call the police. Neighbors can be so unreasonable that way sometimes ... they so hate to be shot at.

Btw? I was agreeing w/ qball and harrymoreland ... why did you single me out for your angst?
